Four Nigerian stowaways who crossed the Atlantic Ocean perched on top of a ship’s rudder have been recounting their remarkable story of survival.
They say they ran out of food and drinking water after 10 days at sea.
When their death-defying voyage from Africa was finally over, they had no idea they had ended up in South America.

Mashallah. Yo Brazil we’re comin..
stay there
Welcome 🙂
@engineering insiders We welcome immigrants. Everyone is free to come to Brazil 🇧🇷
Why muslim immigrants and refugees are so obsessed with Non-muslim democratic countries citizenship instead of other islamic countries ?!
Black African migrants in Europe demand equal rights fair treatment & social justice but they’re racist in their own African countries of origin & murderers of white settlers there
I’m empathetic to these people and how badly they want to live in a foreign country.
However, why were these people not immediately returned to Nigeria? What is the point of even having immigration laws if someone can just show up on a boat and stay indefinitely?
clown
@Cranimesao ?
It’s actually not that bad in Nigeria. Some of these migrants are lied by smugglers and fork out thousands of dollars which could be used to start a small business in Africa.
@Mkenya Halisi right, all countries have their issues, but it seems like the vast majority of these people are not fleeing violence.
It almost seems insane to me people like this are even allowed to apply for asylum, what are they seeking asylum from? It would make much more sense to just send them directly back home
@Mkenya Halisi They seem chill over there. I’d go there and live for a while. All I need is a hut.
Return them immediately!
Brazil is already heavily diverse
Shutup and I am also coming
They haven’t changed the name of that city yet?
Considering the history of Brazil and what may have happened to ThankGod Yeye’s ancestors who were brought over by the Portuguese enslavers, I am incredibly moved by this story. Western imperialism did not end in the mid-20th century; it merely morphed into the neo-colonialism of the IMF, World Bank, and multi-national corporations that we have today.
This is definitely not their first rodeo. They both speak English with tinges of non-nigerian accent so I suspect they have lived in Europe before and were probably deported but still desperate to get back. Sad
You’ve never met with a Nigerian who lived all his lives in Nigeria with British or American accent, they are like that okay
Bruh Nigeria has regional accents and people who are actually semi or fully educated sound better. Stop limiting yourself to Hollywood movies.
His accent Is totally nigerian , Lagos Yoruba land ….
Nigeria have so many tribes ,hausa yoruba Igbos efik etc…
But english is the official language, some even speak pidgin english….no wahala.
@Paul yes ,sure Nigeria is developed in education .
Blows away that whole reparations nonsense when the african is literally risking life to come to the slave colonies.
This is a Life and Death Journey.I m glad they made it alive.I m glad the Brazilian Government accepted them. There have quite a story to tell their grand kids.Brazilians are good and kind people.I love Brazil.
That is definitely not a Nigerian accent
If you want to enter to a country you go to the embassy and ask for visa, you left your wife and children alone? What kind of people is this? If you had to escape how can your children be safe?
@cottelito92visas for nigerians are not easy….at all.
Who are you judge ?
@cottelito92you are advocating illegal entry into countries?
You are condoning illegal entry into countries?
If the embassy would give u visa then it would be ok but embassies are all racist
@Swiss Cottage Clean Air Action I don’t just INTERNATIONAL LAWS are the judge
Their English doesn’t sound like that of Nigerians. They speak quite different
I thought so too. I think they should send them back to Nigeria since they’re claiming Nigerians 🤔
They are Nigerians, I know the two who are seeking for asylum
Hollywood movies have planted an accent stereotype into your empty skull
They need to go to U.S, not here
😂
Now they are in Brazil. After a few days they will be in USA
No. There are lots of African immigrants in Brazil
@Daniel True.. There are some here in my city
These are not Nigerians. We don’t have any accents like this. They should investigate them properly.
That’s the biggest problem, making sure they’re not escaped criminals.
I do feel like countries incl Brazil or the USA are much better for immigrants. They are immigrant countries after all. Europe is NOT. However, this is a matter of law. Escaping “economic hardship” is not a valid reason for crossing borders illegally.
Luck for those two that applied for asylum. Those two that returned should be flogged.
Why take the risk?
Their destination was Europe and got disappointed when they heard Brazil 😂
lies, there is no ship in the world that travels across the ocean that high out of the water with the rudder showing like that, they were on the ship, you can see the rope hanging down into the water that they slid down off the ship
More impressive than this feat is the guys first name, Thankgod
Send them back…when u enter a country illegally u get arrested …. What makes them so special that they get welcomed with open arms?
You do what Western countries say or no more electricity! And that is not Human Right violation. 🙄
where are the other two?
Hocus Pocus there is no way they could have stayed on a ships rudder at sea…there is a standard rise and fall of about 9 feet that is on a very calm sea…not to mention an ocean….likely concealed themselves in deck housing..then on arrival moved themselves to the rudder…….for effect and sympathy..which has fooled many it seems…….Ex Merchant Seaman
a pair of phoneys
It is terrible for these countries to accept any of these “asylum seekers” as it encourages this disaster to continue. The western developed world cannot continue to take in the entire developing world at the cost of its own integrity and functioning.. (Which is why everyone wants to go there in the 1st place). If this continues these great countries will become like the ones everyone is trying to escape. These guys seemed educated and well equipped to improve their own country and community which is what they should have done.
This is the kind of energy pounded yam egusi and fufu gives you
What bullshit, all made up staged, you’d never survive two weeks going through oceans the way they did, but I, m sure most humans will think this really happened.
lucky immigrants they speak english they are from an english speaking country not french ,if from a french speaking country they should be able to speak french to help them
considering that one of their names is “Thankgod”, that tells me everything i need to know about why they fled their country.
i also am highly skeptical of their situation. they speak near perfect english and not with a nigerian accent
