Customers divided as grocery chains open only self-checkout stores
#Consumer #GroceryShopping #SelfCheckout
Great way to not employee citizens. More folks to the poor house.
If I gotta get my food, scan it, bag it, AND pay. I want an employee discount
I really wonder if not paying cashiers makes up the difference for all the theft that happens now.
I prefer self checkout. I can get in and out far more quickly and my raw chicken isn’t packed with deli meats. 🤷
Then they wounder why people steal more and more ur makeing people lose their job and wanna cry when their stores are being ransacked
When I’m shopping for my family of 5 after working my 8 shift, no I don’t want to work for free at Walmart or Kroger by scanning my items . When I was recovering from surgery earlier this year, I was glad to not have to do self checkout. Self check out works best for me if I only have a few items.
Experimenting? Walmart has been like this for 5+ years
So they expect us to work off the clock?
I wont shop there if it is self check out!! Ppl losing jobs!! Items don’t go down in prices! So y not just let ppl have jobs!!!
I like self checkout lane 😄✌🏽
As consumers we HAVE THE POWER by not continuing to shop at stores that have self-checkouts. Sometimes it’s convenient, sometimes, other than that it SUCKS. I would rather stand in line to wait for someone to scan my items. I’m not getting paid for it.
I love self checkout, and it saves me money because i dont want to checkout a ton of stuff.
Them self check outs offers better service than those union run grocery chains🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
If ppl check themselves out, they should get a 10% discount —at the very least seeing how YOU are doing the work. They literally are making PAYING customers work for no pay = slaves, modern consumer slavery. With that said, I worked as a cashier in high school so I can check-scan and bag faster than anyone but I don’t like the fact that corporations are making ppl work without proper compensation. And if items are missed, and cost goes up bc of shrinkage, since not everyone honest, and customers carry the burden in price hikes bc the company never loses money. They always just pass on the added cost to the consumers.
I love self check out
It’s hilarious how self-check clerks seem to get irriated with people who are too slow ringing up their own stuff. Bill Burr had a really funny bit about self-check clerks hollering at people to go faster….. *_”Can you hurry it up?!?! I’m tryin’ to run a business here!!!”_* 😂😂😂
It sounds like only stupid and old people who are lazy are complaining. Self checkout is easy to use. I’m not sure why people have to complain about doing stuff for themselves. This is another reason why this country is falling apart. Nobody to black but the corrupt leftist government
Only people that dont like it have low iq
One major problem with self check out, is once you ring up an item, there is limited space to those items them before moving them back to the car.
It’s less problematic if you’re picking up a handful of items. If you’re doing a full week’s worth of shopping for a family, it’s not practical.
1:14 he kinda sounds like Hank Voight from Chicago PD
And when the price is constantly wrong? Yeah thats gonna be a problem
They have high theft, a lot of money is lost because people don’t scan everything. The money you’re saving on checkers you’re losing in theft.
Don’t mind if I give myself the “employee” discount then 😜
Not only did they take peoples jobs but self check out also allows for more theft and scamming
Self check out is basically like self serve gas pumping, you come serve your own gas, pay and get out. Self check out is no different, some stores will embrace it while some don’t.
I’m not personally a fan of self checkout but it’s not going anywhere so we may as well get used to it. It will just be normal in a few years. When they first introduced self service grocers people weren’t into it at first either same as when they introduced the grocery buggy. People didn’t want to use them so they actually had to hire young women to push them around the store and pretend to shop in order to normalize it.
Self-checkouts make the customer a defacto unpaid employee.
People that don’t like the self checkout are lazy putting their food in the bags or buy too much in their cart..
Self-checkout is not supposed to be for a cart load of stuff but when there is only one or two staffed tills, shoppers will go there.
I think one think that we’ve failed to point out is that with price hikes and wage cuts, we’re essentially doing the store’s work now but we’re not getting the savings…
Not only are we doing the work, but the check out is also asking if we want to TIP and suggests up to 40%. WTAF?
Walmart has had self-checkouts for at least 5 years, how is this new? Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s not. With a lot of groceries, it’s hard to manage and bag all the groceries. A few purchases is fine. One thing I hate is when the scale insists you put each item on it before you can proceed to scan the next.
In California checker or not you just walk out the door
It’s all free ❗️. FREE ❗️ what a great state 🙏🏻
Well i can see that corporate America is trying to save money but they don’t think the older generations aren’t going to get it or it makes it harder for them to purchase the items and not only that it means less staff upfront thier might be an increase of theft
It is ok for express checkout or 10 or less items when the grocery lines are packed. A basket full of items I don’t want to scan and bag my groceries, I just don’t
There was a news story on the BBC about how the rise of self-checkout and the lack of staffing is leading to increased “shrinkage”. There will come a point when the supermarket bosses realise the mistake they made forcing consumers to do it yourself because a lot of them are just helping themselves.
I have severe anxiety and have a mental breakdown when I have to interact with anyone. This is why love self checkout
That’s interesting, At Walmart fruit is not a problem and doesn’t require extra assistance.
For me it’s a 1st resort, self checkout is usually faster, even if there is a line. On the manned cashiers, especially at night, I have stood in line for almost 30 minutes, there were 2 times before that where they just closed the self check out and it was over 30 minutes, so I just left it in the store. To be fair I don’t carry cash, and use gift cards or other cards, so that does tend to be faster, although for people who have cash it is annoying when the machine doesn’t take it.
Coming next: Customers will be required to stock the shelves. I don’t mind self-checkout for a few items. If I have a large amount of items, then I prefer the cashier.
I hate self scan.
The self check at aldi is very very easy. The ones at giant eagle are constantly telling you do not place item in belt take to the bagging area. I dont mind self check but it is replacing jobs. If companies go to far and get rid of man power then we are all unemployed and there will be no customers left that have money to patronize their stores. So big corp big real careful here.
This will be great 👍 for self stealing…. Pocket what you want & Pay for little…thanks 👍🤪
just boycott !
I only use self checkout if I had 15 smaller items or less, if I had more or larger items then I’m going to the cashier.
what about the jobs? automation will backfire sooner than later
Y’all love giving up your fricken jobs!!! SMH!
People are too stupid to do it themselves.
Useless eaters.
😢
With a few items I don’t mind but with large trips they have to have people. Also if they aren’t hiring as many people we BETTER see them prices drop. We aren’t stupid. Give us that discount.
Don’t like self check out.Unless you gonna give me employee discount.Give me 1099 for work on site stop it.😮Wage labor board should investigate this practice.
I highly dislike self checkout and give it a 1 star review every time. I’m not an employee there and I don’t get any employee discount for self checkout. Lucky to get that 1 star cuz I’d prefer 0.
Its pure greed on the grocery chains. Too lazy to pay a cashier for their job.
I won’t ship at a self checkout only store.
I’m getting a can of paint, a bottle of acetone, a bottle of wine at 5am after work- Please wait for assistance. I look – no one around … I leave.
Eliminating first jobs
Cashier and bagging jobs are customer service entry level jobs in the grocery industry
More important the only interaction between customer and employee
I guess customer service with a smile no longer a priority
Your money is the priority
So you pay more… to do their work for them? 😂😂😂😂
I’m going to start filling lawsuits for breach of my constitutional rights – forcing servitude.
THEY AREN’T PAYING ME TO ACT AS A CASHIER.
I will definitely shop a lot less if it’s all self check out. How is it we pay more than ever for everything and no service/no help is the new normal?
There’s nothing wrong with self checkout. It’s not rocket science
I hate self checkout. It’s already such a huge ordeal to get to the freaking store by the time I’ve done my shopping, I want to be served by humans.
He’s not wearing his name tag. I got you stew 😂😂
I most always do self checkout. No difference in number of employees. Just different jobs now.
Yup! Biden’s going to control AI. YUP!
You should be charging Biden rent for the space he is taking up in your head.
They should give us a discount for using self check out.
Would rather have a Real Live Person!
If the prices are lower I’m for it but they won’t be
Once upon a time, the consumer would pay higher costs for better services. Now, we still have higher costs, but there is no services to pay for.
Oh come on. Kroger is circling the bowl. They’ll be auctioning all these machines off soon enough
To get around this I just order almost everything on Amazon and JackBe’s
They are preparing everyone for the mark of the beast
😂😂😂
They interviewed all old people. It’s like the government . Resistant to change
I Hate self checkouts ! ! 😡😡😝 . .
I love the self checkout ❣️ I go much faster than any cashier!!!
How long do you have to wait in the queue to even get to the machine? These shops are wasting everybody’s time as we all forced to stand around to do the work of the tiller without any reduction on prices.
@Eat the Rich At my store there are 20 of them. 10 on each end! It goes very fast! I rarely have to wait in line more than 5 mins! Tops
Modern day slavery. Forcing people to work for free.
I despise having someone check me out. But I think it needs to be available for those who need it.
There is always a third option. Farmers markets
Keep killing jobs, and still expect America to be great. 😢
Stop complaining people my god
Stop shilling for the corporations.
I will not use self check out.
The problem now is that ONE person has to deal with EIGHT people. Its a lot.
Prices are outrages and the consumers are responsible to do the work
Yeah, as if you work there.
It’s really sad to see how many people can’t even use the self checkout. The world is full of stupid and lazy people. Specifically our generation that has all the info you need in your phone.
That’s why I avoid Target now. A dozen lanes and _maybe_ one lane open.
And so we’re all these people in the country going to work there taken away employment. This is horrible. I don’t like the self check out ones either we just don’t want people to work.
Don’t worry. 50 percent of stores aren’t gonna risk all the stealing that can be done with self check out.
Boycott these stores!!! Save jobs for people!!
Self checkouts are where the most thefts occur. You’d think stores wouldn’t want to become self checkouts only.
Are they going to pass the saving on to the customer that does they’re own work or is it just another ploy to wring more out of us?
I prefer a live cashier, especially when I have a lot of stuff.
Like most new things, it will improve (fortunately and unfortunately ).
If you get a headache or feel the need to complain, you’re probably too old, too conservative, or too dim to have the need to leave the house. Just stay home and continue watching Faux News.
I REFUSE TO USE IT!! IM NOT RINGING UP MY OWN GROCERIES!! AND YESTERDAY I LEFT A CART HALF FULL AT THE REGISTER AND WALKED OUT AT DOLLAR GENERAL!! NOPE!! I REFUSE!
I hate being forced to be a part-time cashier.
I hate that I know the code for banana is #4011, organic adds a 9, and it’s #94011.
Age of Aquarius get with the program technological advances being unveiled 😊
I’m trying not to use them because I don’t like being the grocery store employee and we need to keep people employed.
I don’t wanna álef check out bc after the second time ima have to take something for free since I’m kinda working soo I’d rather stay honest
Didn’t ya’ll complain when cashiers wanted a raise. This is what you get so don’t complain.
The employees are now watching you cameras are now watching you..surveillance verses service..notice the switch.
I’ll do self checkouts when the company starts giving me a discount for doing an employee’s job for free.
There should be both options available. Some consumers may have various disabilities and some elderly customers may not be tech saavy and thus may need assistance. Also, existing cashiers may be students who are trying to pay off their student loans and/or single parents who are struggling to make ends meet, etc. If stores only have self check-outs, many people would likely end up being unemployed. I won’t be personally affected by this, which I am extremely grateful for; however, I certainly would not want to see people lose their jobs, etc.
These self checkout machines should come with the same technology as Uniqlo to improve efficiency (i.e. reduce long lines, reduce the chances of items not being scanned, and make the overall experience more positive for consumers, etc.). Having said that, stores should still offer both options and take the needs of consumers with disabilities and elderly people who may or may not be tech savvy into consideration. They are valued customers as well and should be treated as such.
