Money, money, money. I’m just sick the money men allowed this to happen. Already tossed all my Duck gear. College fb is dead to me.
wow who cares
Basketball programs can compete in different conferences from the football program at the same school. So then why can’t other sports, women’s volleyball for instance?
Basketball programs generate money and profit. Other sports programs are subsidized and need the football money to support the program.
Because nobody cares about them. That’s why title 9 exists. Those sports wouldn’t exist otherwise.
No offense to the girl running track. But your universities doesn’t care about your sport they make most and all of their money from football…they would cut the track program in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the simple fact they needed to be in compliance with Title IX.
And the now Pac 4 commissioner does nothing.
No time for drinking I guess
When the teams travel, flying back and forth between the West Coast and the Midwest for games will be excruciating. It makes no sense at all. When will the students have time to do their work? Of course the Conference officials dont care. It’s all about the green at the end of the day. *sigh*
I think that this design is a bad idea. I worry about the students and their projects. I think some of these conferences that require so much travel and so far is not only a risk to student health, it is a risk to climate change as well. In some ways, conferences that group athletes playing schools closer to them or via short-distance travel with maybe one or two national tournaments make sense. It seems like they could be traveling 4-6 hours on a plane every other weekend across the country.
I think what would make more sense is conferences set up by regions of the country.
For example:
* Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey
* East Coast Central: Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina
* Southeast Gulf: South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee
* Upper Midwest: Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri
* Southwest: Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii
* Northwest: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Alaska
@stphinkle You must be new to college sports. That regional thing you talk about, is how all the conferences started out in the first place. Hence the “new” conference realignments.
SJSU FOOTBALL BABY
Maybe Cal will finally win the Pac 4
Cal has 5 football national championships btw
None in living memory, unless you remember the Great Depression
How about going to university primarily for an education, if you’ve got a sporting talent practise for and compete (yes even as a professional) in that in your spare time? That’s how the rest of the world does it.
1. You have no idea about the American university system.
2. These student athletes are on athletic scholarships. It’s the only way they would even be able to afford to attend these schools.
3. These universities are making millions off of the students athletes with television deals.
@XxFExXlmao cope
Looks like minor sports athletes will be lost to those programs, or they will have to move to other universities just to continue to play those sport’s!!
And with the US having probably the highest obesity levels in the world, having kids dropping out of sport’s programs is just going to make that problem worse!!
They’re not canceling sports programs, they’ll just have different competition. Also, college sports isn’t the catalyst, or foundation on what make people teter on obesity or not.
Abortion Laws, Supreme Court is B S C, lack of Gun Laws, Corporate TakeOvers, Rich Donors buying Politicians.. What Are U doing????
Nil money is gonna ruin the NCAA plain an simple!! Pathetic an disgusting!! The only real thing to blame is the dollar an our society making it more important than air, water an food! Lets not forget a place to live!
Judges have fake law degree certificates small claims 2016 and county attorney
It’s about gambling, it’s about the viewer and not the student. It’s about profit over health.
Little-known facts.
Really, really stupid to make these athletes have to travel so much now.
Just a lot of bribery
Asking these young athletes of all kinds of sports, go to school and travel that far is BS
The young athlete’s aren’t forced to do anything.
GO CAL BEARS
1:17 its completely ruined Oregon football history. Good luck.
Hope you gain new fans because the fans that stuck with ya through the worst times wont be there much longer. Keep it up ncaa. Circling the drain.
1:22 exposure? How much more exposure does ucla, usc, oregon and Washington need? This dude is a joke.
1:51 they are no longer student athletes, they are professionals, its been that way for a while. The ncaa just refuses to accept it and they don’t care. Because money.
I wish the football programs would leave universities. Football is evil. How is it possible that millions, upon millions are brought in by football, but tuition keeps going up? Football is 100% evil.
Very very sad😢😢
The champions of brain damage.
One of greatest of all the types of champions for brain damage.
But there is always the sport of leg damage, there. Is a couple of those.
Just a question to the college graduates of the sports world,
You guys really think you are really something good? Good?
Ha ha ha ha
Hockey doing ok
What is that girls talking about? Traveling 6-8 hours is so normal for college sports. What kind of bubble does she live in?
Also, the more schools you have in the conference, your coaches as actually have more options. They don’t necessary have to pick a school 12+ hours away to compete.
Baseball and softball players are overwhelmed only because they play SO MANY GAMES! If you are required to play 50+ games per season, you are not a “student” period. Unless your school is just far away from everyone else.
She was referring to regular season conference games. A flight from LA to the Bay Area or Arizona is shorter than a flight from LA to Ohio. That’s a 1 hour flight compared to a 4 hours flight + travel time. That’s what this change will mean.
@M Smith many sports don’t play every school in the conference. Depending on what her sport is. Also, she is lucky enough to have flights to take. Many schools just bus their kids hours every week. She is living in a comfortable bubble. Traveling 4 hours (8 hr for round trip) per week for a game is like nothing for many student athletes in the country. Welcome to reality.
@RuthThey might not play everyone in conference for football, but they do in other sports. Even if they don’t, they still play a full schedule, with out of conference schools added in. Baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, just to name a few, play multiple games a week. And no school is bussing there students for an 8hr drive, unless it’s a one time tournament somewhere and can’t charter a flight.
@ray ramos you are in a rich bubble, too. Many schools bus their players for more than 12 hours. Do some survey outside of your bubble. Not everyone can afford flights.
RIP PAC 12
Wait? So they leave because they are not aired with some media company and the deal ended???
Because they won’t be able to make millions of dollars? Lollll. It is sad how college sports is a money making machine for these colleges. It is an after school activity… not a tool for school to monitize funds. Lol. Oh dear. This country is falling apart.
Greedy
3:16 Those teams are the ones that people watch and make the money for the school so it can subsidies the sports people don’t pay to watch.
At the end of the day, you don’t have to play a sport no one wants to watch you play, or you can do that and live with the consequences of that choice.
There are only so many hours in a day and you’re competing against all forms of entertainment, not just way more entertaining sports played by far superior athletes.
My father is always telling me that colleges and universities were meant for something else but I can’t remember what that was… oh well, it probably doesn’t matter much anymore.
Will they pay their players?
Only 2pac kept it real
And the answer is no, they didn’t ask the kids how they felt about it, because money was all that mattered.
Sports outfits with education side hustles, they should all be shut down in favor of real education, not CTE and $$$
So who’s getting fired for this one? Will there be a Rose Bowl anymore? Someone egregiously messed up…
Integrity and morality has left American sports, and Hollywood hijacked them! Never mix with Hollywood, it literally destroys family and communities.
People don’t care about education or our children.
Stop allowing corporations from manipulating our players.
Why not, big money compromises everything else
It’s not corporations it’s the fact that they need a way to pay for other activities and schools taxes.
I don’t want to hear any coach from the SEC complaining about these financial decisions schools have to make…UM left the Big 12 to make more money. So that coach can keep quiet.
Is all because of Apple. Apple was rumored to stream games on Apple TV+. So the Apple hating teams left.
They did it to themselves.
What is that girl’s attitude problem? She should have been checked years ago!
Go B1G!
So, people with money have been exploiting young athletes to make even more money….. shocker!
I mentioned. Why hasnt any taxpayers funded stadium, ever made a return to the taxpayers. With the gambling, I think the taxpayers deserve reparations. Where has it all gone? We put in roads, sewage, water and give them money. Wheres the return?
Guess that is why, in other countries school is school, and sports are done at the sports clubs. Could be why we rate very low on educational charts, and why Americans pay so much for school and college. We are paying for the team that is a money machine.
Humans are tribal and love to root for “their” teams. This can be a country, a state, a hometown and even a college. In the end, sports are just entertainment and generate lots of revenue for schools. That money is then used to hire the best teachers in the world. The money is why the US has the best education institutions in the world. Talent follows money and there is lots of money in sports.
*Only a small fraction of students play sports so not sure how much its effecting education at scale. Academic competition has never been higher for higher ed. I think we’re doing fine.
Paid tuition isn’t even close to being enough to pay for athletics. Football is the biggest money maker. And about half of the money gained in marketing from football goes to the other sports departments of both men and women. Most departments are a net negative, so increasing the flow of money will actually help build those departments even more. As long as the scheduling is done right less traveling will occur. And a means can be provided for these athletes to succeed in schooling.
That also because other country don’t spend on military like USA.
I’m looking forward to the Pac-1. If I was able to play for the Pac-1, we would have the conference championship in the bag every year! We’re number 1! We’re number 1!
Pac-0.5 is when things are going to really get crazy.
The Pac-1 Extinction conference bout to go CRAYYYYZAYYYY 👀🔥
Nice idea but NCAA rules say you need 6 teams to make a conference
MONEY.
On the bright side, at least they will rack up airline miles and hotel point!
Whats a pac 4 anyway?
NEAR collapse?
I remember when colleges were all about the education. I guess I’m old school.
They still are. The people supporting sports are usually uneducated. That money is used to hire the best professors in the world.
It still is but colleges got pay bills and the only 2 sports that generate massive profits are basketball and football. The other sports and activities rely on the money from these 2 sports to operate.
That’s cute. You think being motivated by money is a new thing.
Imagine if they would spend all that money on actually educating students rather than promoting meaningless competitions that enrich others and distract the public from grasping the principle that knowledge what Universities are for.
Well if they did that they wouldn’t of gotten the tv contract to begin with. Think of University sports and academics as two separate entities.
@G Mac Why ? I am not aware of any other country that gives University places on the ability to get punched in the head and to kick a ball?
Sports are essential to education.
@small wang Hitchens Razor
Student athletics can study on the broad and have professors for student athletics . Lastly take classes online. This was always already done in college sport.
I wonder where those millions will go?
The Big 10 might over take the SEC for the power house conference, but no one is talking about the college playoff. What will the Rose Bowl be if not for Pac 12 vs Big 10 champion??? With both the Big 10 and Big 12 expanding the number of teams, will the Rose Bowl be the champion from the Big 10 and Big 12?
The CFP destroyed a lot of those traditional bowl matchups.
Big 10 will not match the SEC when it comes to football
American football distroys collegiate sports.
Howard Cosell is turning over in his grave at what today’s college sports are like.
Well at least the players have a solid college education to fall back on.
It’s collapsed. It’s over
Congratulations oregon, you will never be recognized as really being a B1G member
Oregon’s future pay checks will say otherwise..
We don’t want this either. We would much rather stay in a strong and stable PAC12 than have to travel to Chicago every other week. There was no other option for us though thanks to the actions and greed of USC, UCLA and Larry Scott
We are now supposed to worry whether athletes fly commercial or private? Come on man!
It was a mistake to include numbers in college sports conferences names. The SEC doesn’t have that problem.
What is happening is the American system’s tendency to consolidate into 2 or 3 competitors. GM/Ford/Chrysler, CBS/NBC/ABC, AT&T/Verizon/T-mobile, Democratic/Republican, Vail Corp/everybody else, …
Bye bye PAC!! I won’t miss ya.
My high school played in a district where we had to make 3 different 4-hour roundtrips in every season, every sport. Lots of high school districts are even more spread out than that. Are 2-hr flights that big of a deal? Small school HS softball or soccer players can do it, but elite D1 athletes can’t?
Same with small college athletics. Division 2’s Western Oregon plays in the “Lone Star Conference.” Division 3 has a conference that includes schools in Texas, Indiana, and Ohio. Guarantee none of those kids are flying charter, if they’re flying at all.
From the UofO President to Coach Drinkwitz, all I hear is why these student athletes should be paid more.
They should be changing other teams to keep up competition
Money Money Money
Funny… here I thought college was supposed to be about education and growth…. capitalism officially needs to die!
Its so sad to see schools prioritizing money over education. Sports are big part of the experience of collage, sports is also a vehicle to teach valuable life lessons to the athletes. Now the lesson is only the worship of money.
All those scholorships that they give to non revenue generating sports like every single one
of them besides men’s football and basketball? You know..Scholorships for education? They
are paid for by money.
Smaller sports and women’s teams are complaining about the travel? Your programs lose money and are subsidized by only 2 programs: football and men’s basketball. Without football and men’s basketball, there is no squash and fencing and swimming.
Don’t apply to Big 10 schools and if you are already at one of these bailing schools on athletic scholarship, just transfer. Boo boo. No one is crying for team bass fishing and water polo.
Your own PAC-12 leadership couldn’t secure a TV deal. There’s Poker After Dark and logrolling on cable TV, and your leadership couldn’t secure a TV deal with USC football and UCLA basketball as your headliners. Boo boo. No one’s crying.
those west coast kids are in for a real “culture shock” – BIG10 football is a more physical game. interested to see how they adjust.
“Tradition” doesn’t keep the lights on
I think conferences should be more geographic, but who cares?
“Did we ask any of them?” resonated throughout my soul
but $50 million a year is $50 million a year
Always about the money 😠
Im looking forward to playing for the pac “man”
Let’s stop pretending these are “collegiate” sports. These are professional for-profit sports to represent the brand of the university athletics departments. Either pay the athletes accordingly or make it a truly collegiate experience.
I have no problem with this!
with the 50 million they make cant they just get a college jet?
It’s almost like tying athletics to academics is a really stupid idea. 🤔
… so should we call it the Big-18 now?
NBC is absolutely shocked that there’s gambling in Rick’s Cafe. 😱😱😱
This is another result of the 57 year war on public education started by Ronal Regan to “get rid of undesirables […] those who are there to carry signs and not to study might think twice to carry picket signs.” He wanted students to pay 100% their tuition themselves. Now it’s just all about money. Like everything else.
The collegiate sports industrial complex is a stain on America and is abusive. Get money out of college sports and this wouldn’t happen.
Missouri PICKED to join the SEC!!! Of course the big 12 was closer!!
That’s horrible. I hated traveling in HS. Couldn’t imagine what it’s going to be like for those kids.
They alerted travel, the Washington and Oregon schools had to travel to Arizona and Colorado
This is sad. College sports is dead.
Who cares about other college sports. If they bring in enough money to fly charter, it is their fault. It is like the WNBA comparing itself to the NBA.
Good! This is amazing
The Big 12 easily solidified itself as the third best conference with the four teams they added.
This is outa of control. At this point…congress should get involved.
About money not the student. Good question Was the student body asked or given any opportunity for input?
Still 5 or 6 home games, more $$$ to school & state. Similar to stars staying 1 season
I used to love college sports but GREED has ruined them for me. The portal is an abomination!
We could change our name to the 6 PAC and sell a lot more beer at the games.
