BLACK FRIDAY,—-The images of people in stores surrounded by products, walking through aisles, malls, stores, moving in no particular direction, just browsing the objects hanging on the shelves. I thought are people active or passive in this scene? The products sitting still look passive and the people moving their bodies through the stores appear active. But what I see is not what is going on.
I see a silent auction happening. The auctioneer are the products talking to you silently in your head as you pass them by and check their ticket price. They have your attention the ticket price you read is their voice taking over your inner voice. Our minds’s inner voice do not recite prices on its own. That voice saying its name has entered into your head. Subtle but very effective the products have invaded your mind.
They sit harmlessly for someone to pick them up and buy them looks passive enough. Their job is to get through the check out counter and transform. Products want to change form like a caterpillar becomes a butterfly the goods change form into money. Whatever can be done to get into your cart for check is fair game. If they had legs they walk to the check out themselves to complete their transformation. They have to use your legs, your mind, your hands, your body, to accomplish that feat.
After check out their mission is complete and they no longer have to actively sit on the shelf calling your attention to buy them. You can use them for a purpose that is not intended for them for all they care. The toilet paper does not care if you use it as wall paper or for its intended purpose the price inhabited its body before check out was left behind and the ew body it has is still in the store but in the form of money. The product left the store as something useful and its other self as a value stayed in the store as money. A very weird society, indeed.
This transformation is so important that they are held under lock and key. So important that people assist in the transformation of products into money to ensure that transformation happens wth no disturbance or interference whatsoever. So important that people wander to look and get hooked. Its a very strange society where its products are the active player and the people the passive players told silently through words and images what to do and when to do it, even how to do it and how to feel about things.

Mrs. Carter was the epitome of grace & classy, refined elegance, certainly one of our most beautiful First Ladies, with the most glorious of smiles. Seeing the film footage of the Carters’ White House years makes one realize how young, not only THEY were, but how young this nation still was in the 1970’s, a rocky, unsettling era, to be sure, but with an underlying positive energy, helped along enormously by a national sense of humor, back in a time when when we COULD laugh. Watching the footage, I painfully realize how much I’VE aged & it’s not a happy thought. Mrs. Carter’s passing makes for a very sad day in U.S. history. It’s comforting at least to know that all the acrimony created during Jimmy Carter’s presidency has passed into oblivion, one now which seems a mere blip in time, & that his time in the Oval Office can be evaluated objectively & with a mostly positive analysis. We were a totally different nation in the mid-70’s, still recovering & sorting things out from the tumultuous 1960’s, a nation we never will be again. In retrospect, and truth, we hardly deserved Jimmy & his lovely wife Rosalynn. She was a great lady, a great patriot, a great American. I fear we won’t see her like again. As for drones, golly, they sure are ungainly looking things, aren’t they? Almost like a badly-designed science-fiction toy!
