In the Yahoo Finance series NEXT, Yahoo Finance anchor Allie Garfinkle travels to Matteson, Illinois, and Boston, Massachusetts, for an exclusive look at the future of Amazon’s warehouses, where the e-commerce giant is building and deploying its next generation robots. Amazon’s robotics have become the center of the company’s strategy to fulfill the pledge it makes to you, me, and anyone with a Prime membership — lightning fast delivery. These robots are mission-critical — the company is betting they will be the edge they need to corner online retail and improve margins. Amazon (AMZN) today operates at a scale that was unthinkable in the 1990s, when Jeff Bezos was mailing out books from his garage. Take Prime Day. Ten years ago, Prime Day didn’t exist. In 2023, the virtual shopping event generated billions in sales within 48 hours. The company is now the blueprint for every digital marketplace we use, and the phrase the “Amazon Effect” has come to embody a tangible infrastructure change in our world — that brick-and-mortar retail locations are fizzling away as consumers flock to the Internet. Ultimately, in developing these robots, Amazon is building its own technological and financial future. Amazon is a company that thrives on being the invisible infrastructure of our lives, and the robots are the invisible backbone of Amazon. NEXT is a groundbreaking series that will offer a glimpse into some of the biggest companies Yahoo Finance covers every day, what they’re planning for the future, and what it means for your investing portfolio. nothing good for humanity
buying more amazon shares
Yes and I’m realizing now those little robots that LOOK like Roomba explain why Amazon is buying the company iRobot. Roomba will probably be more than just a vacuum cleaner, maybe even move furniture around for elderly people.
@xTheKingsGuard Only time will tell, I like how they mentioned machines will maximize efficiency increasing profits🤔 Like these machines are unfortunately going to replace 80%+ of the warehouse jobs saving a fortune but atleast my shares will be $$$
I’m loving this content Yahoo!
Very cool project 👍 Human-AI collaboration offers many benefits to businesses. One of the most significant benefits is increased efficiency. 🫀🧠🤝🤖🦾.
A CEO said robots will not take job, wow what a relief we all know they never lie…ya right
Seems like relying on robots/software to run your business is also a big vulnerability once the infrastructure is set for non-human operations. If something went awry that plant/warehouse is shut down.
Humans are the biggest liability.
WHO’S GONNA BUY ALL THAT USELESS JUNK IF EVERYONE’S BROKE?
Get ready boyss
I wish they would be honest. Amazon laid off workers to try to increase revenue for share holders. Amazon isn’t going broke or losing $$ in a way that hurts anyone other than the stock shares. My question is who are going to buy all these products without jobs and $$?
people that profited from buying amazon shares
“Amazon says more robots in it’s warehouses won’t take jobs. It will create them, as more and more people will be needed to work with and repair the technology.” What an inane statement. Why would they do it if it cost more than not doing it? Technology is only a net positive to jobs when it creates new demand, for example the app store or the smart watch.
Let robots buy ur stuff.
Guys I am in the robotic field. Robotic are taking the jobs people really don’t want to do. They are also creating high paying jobs. So if you can not adapt then I understand your frustration.
Wish they had this at our warehouse, the workers there suck at their job and it effect us driver
Don’t forget about Digit up in Washington!
Who’s going to buy that crap when all the jobs get taken by robots?
Is the nerd wearing the mask afraid he will get COVID from one of the robots ? 😂
How will Amazon have customers I robots have all our jobs. You just put yourself out of business.
They will get other jobs. When Amazon fires excess employees in low demand times, they don’t just beg on the streets offering to do sorting work for food.
Commerce is a full circle between employees and employers. Without employees you will have no everyday customers like me.
This machines will sale supermarket .maybe this is good product item. Every one ,people can’t damage their knee, hand , back .another create robot carrying item and up and down walking and stairs to upper building .
Good 👍.
Soon there will be no one employed to buy stuff from amazon. Poetic justice
Eventually, the robots will repair themselves, and then we’ll be out of most jobs
All this money pouring into robotics to make more money, If Billionaires cared they might throw some change to end world hunger. That wouldn’t make them much money so they haven’t thought of it. Well maybe they thought of it but figured it wasn’t a good investment. Maybe the Vatican will come through. Instead invest ion robots to kill your jobs. That will make us all hungry and then what ?
For people bashing Amazon for laying off – Amazon is a “for profit” company and they will do what is best for them. If you have a skill that can be replaced with some else by training them 5 hours, you are out of luck. Update your skillset. This planet is brutal and the game is called “survival of the fittest”.
For people say robots will buy the products – All of these people who comments here and the people laid off will be using Amazon’s service.
BTW, YouTube and Google uses lot of AIs and robotics and people are here in the YouTube to put comments :).
This was the same issue with people when computers came years ago , then what happened is the history.
Automation isn’t necessarily an end to all jobs, you just need to find a way to adapt to a changing world. At least till universal basic income is put in place.
