Police in Los Angeles said the use of an automated license plate reader helped them catch a suspect who is accused of killing four men. The technology has sparked controversy in some cities in the past due to concerns it could be abused. NBC News’ Dana Griffin has the story.

If you want privacy then go get a room. If you don’t want those cameras catching you do something embarrassing, then simply don’t do it in public! Those who are against surveillance cameras are guilty of obstructing justice+ aiding and abetting criminals! Sick of this crap helping criminals stay hidden and undetected. They want to protect a criminal’s privacy! If you’re doing something harmful then you should get caught.
What happens when they say
“If you dont let us put cameras inside your home to make sure your aren’t a terrorist, then you must be a terrorist.”
@@youtubeuser5683My dear what part of we are talking about “public space” street cameras did you not understand? Who’s talking about cameras inside your home? Please read stuff and pay attention to what people say and write, before you start talking about impertinent information that’s irrelevant to the subject being discussed! I didn’t say anything about cameras inside homes.
For this use, I do not mind as the perp could of killed more people if time allowed. Cases like these where time is crucial. We are soft on crimes these days, it gets worse year by year.
Regarding Privacy:
If people still think they have any sort of privacy, they are living under a rock or just misinformed. Just like people still buying the RING Doorbell of which they were found guilty of misuse of consumer info (vids/sounds) that had to pay millions. Also, Amazon had to pay millions regarding the Alexa voice assistant recordings about 31 million. Just on these two alone, either people do not care or they are no informed. People taking surveys on Facebook of your favorite food, favorite movies, places of dream vacations, etc. etc. These are all similar to YOUR security questions and they wonder how there Facebook account was hacked. I am witness to things like this with my closest friends as they do this on social media. No matter the warning, people are stubborn.
This is absolutely a 4th amendment violation. This was illegal. Yes its great that they caught him but this is a complete violation of the 4th amendment.
I like how he says it doesn’t work like that and proceeds to say that the license plate is put into a database. The fact that there is a database means we are all be tracked.
Boo
Make sure to make it available for every state or county please!!!
Ok little socialist. 🤣
Simply put, it’s a technology that can be abused. We all know it. On the one hand, if my loved one were killed, if this technology could be used to find the killer, I’d obviously want it used. On the other, if there’s a campaign to disenfranchise a group of people, target a political rival, go after a cop’s ex girlfriend who dumped him, etc., this tech can be scary. It very quickly moves toward the camera system they have in China, where there’s literally no where you can go that you can’t be targeted.
Usage probably requires a signed-off warrant. So it can’t be used for just anything. Although, of course, for any system that exists, there are people who seek to abuse it for their own ends. But there are safety measures in place.
@@chadmelonite2493
The guy is not talking abuse he is telling if my family killed then we can use all technology avaliable to catch the criminal but if the criminal killed ur family he doesn’t the government to infringe on his freedom privacy
@@hikmsuna9286 you know that’s not what he said

I am not American and I don’t speak it fluently but the guy wrote it in white and black and u r telling me he is not saying that go head read it and come back
So maybe use the technology more often to catch killers, and other violent suspects? 😅 they probably just use it to tow vehicles and write tickets though
Cops are lying. Cops can’t be trusted. They will abuse this and useless against their foes
Why can’t they use that for all the smash and grabs? Why couldn’t they have that technology in the prison Epstein was in?
If you’re going to have this level of technology gives us our full 2nd amendment rights!
You can’t even understand the Second Amendment. Are you part of a well-regulated militia providing the security for the free state of the US?
How is it controversial, I thought they already did stuff like this
I can’t believe so many people are proponents of this technology. Get rid of this garbage We don’t want a surveillance state.
It’s the political persecutions that r going on here .. Leading to more abuse.. definitely need to research myself bc our corporate media r a bunch of liars ..
I’m glad the tool was helpful in catching the serial killer. But are there regulations and policies in place to prevent abuse and internal/external audits? So we don’t keep going down the path of a surveillance state.
You think rules and policies stop Democrats from abusing the system on 🇺🇲 citizens?
And we know this technology is just the beginning to open up many doors for surveillance on every private citizen just another set of eyes in the sky…… just like the song says they want to know everything you do and everything you think they want to have total control
Ezpass readers read license plate!!!! My camera at home is reading license plate
I dont like that America is putting up Big Brother Eyes on every corner saying is “Safety” well one day they will use that number to find people that dont agree with the American Government and those individuals will disappear
who would’ve thought, a mericans are living in an authoritarian country all this time…
So it took the liscense plate reader to find the mass murderer but the police had to have entered his plate for camera to ping it according to the them. So if they had the plate then they knew his name and info already! Those cameras read more than plate numbers, they can capture whose driving as well.
This is just pure speculation on my part, but they may have been searching for not only his car, but also a handful of other plates that had been recorded in the vicinity of previous crimes in the spree. In other words, they were trying to identify plates that had been spotted near multiple crime scenes. And then when they got a repeat hit they investigated that driver further. As I said, total speculation.
Why do u care if the camera captures the driver too is that not the point…if ur car didn’t involved in crime why would u care
Surveillance technology saves lives. Time to amend the Constitution to allow for mass surveillance.
Lol…clown.
And the cops no matter how good they are when they go bad they will with hold footage and destroy tapes but when they need it it’s on
“destroy tapes”
Welcome to the 21st century. How long have you been sleeping?
That’s quite an improvement on your videos, good job!

When the government tells you it’s good for you it’s definitely bad.

So in order to do what worthless cops can’t cameras up your butt cuz look it caught someone #nazipropaganda
We are the same as China, we just tell lies 😂🤣
London is wall to wall cameras like these…
It’s been around for at least ten years. I know that’s how I got caught lol
More than that Carlos, The technology called ‘Gait Recognition’ has been around almost 10 years. They can ID every person in a 300 person low-res crowd shot by their walk.
*FYI Alexa is spying on you*
13 months is a long time… It should all be instantly deleted unless there’s something getting printed up. Then it should be saved for the extent of the trial and destroyed. This kind of information is incredibly sensitive and could be used to track any person who is in a vehicle at any time for any reason…. And just like any number of other technologies that become ubiquitous it just becomes accepted that that’s going to be the way it is. This kind of stuff needs stopped now I don’t like this tech in my city, and I don’t even get tickets from it.
Made up stories and crisis actors to sell the public on a total surveillance state.
Finally someone else sees what’s really going on.
License plates are government property. Once you leave your houseb there is no expectation of privacy

Welp, it’s been fun folks.
Orwell warned us all.
Beverly Hills is the keyword

The crypto market is highly profitable with an expert broker just like Mrs Julie Vanessa Julien.. I got recommended to her and since then my financial life has been a success
YES! that’s exactly her name (Mrs Julie Vanessa Julien) I watched her interview on CNN News and so many people recommended highly about her and her trading skills, she’s an expert and I’m just starting with her ….From Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
I googled about her and yes, she’s won my heart. She just gained herself a new client

Millions of cameras being used by thousands of agencies to stalk your ex or whatever but we finally caught this one bad guy see? Concern invalidated.
Could we have found him in other ways? I investigated myself and determined that no that’s literally impossible because the Patriot act doesn’t go too far enough!
In Florida every vehicles license plate is registered with the Turnpike Authority so they can bill you when you drive through a reader on the turnpike. They have these cameras at intersections and if you drive through the light they send you a ticket. All license plates are registered with the camera readers.
they are using them to track women leaving Texas and going to California for abortions to prosecute women
This will be abused by serial rapists and will not catch any serial rapists. Bet.
Get rid of automated license plate readers. I need my privacy.
Person of interest t.v. show technology.
Will take about 5 years before it is totally abused and everyone is under surveillance. Never fails to happen.
CCTVs are everywhere in Taiwan so that’s why police officers find suspects in 24 or 48 hours. Yeah it’s controversial in the aspect of privacy but it helps a lot.
There are other more efficient and less privacy-invasive methods that CCTV‘s
Coachella said no, because they host a massive music festival, and that festival is patronized by wealthy criminals, cartel members, drug dealers…and those wealthy, powerful, and extremely dangerous people mix with celebrities, politicians, and assorted children of the wealthy and powerful. Coachella has every economic reason not to have the cameras.
wow
Yes, all vehicles are AUTOMATICALLY “in the system,” by design. They enter a license number and the system scans EVERY license plate that passes one of these cameras. You are “in the system” whether you’re a suspect or not, charged or not, convicted or not. Whether you’ve had your car for 20 years or just bought a new one 10 seconds ago, it’s “in the system.”
So
@@hikmsuna9286 Just correcting the misleading statement from the story. Take from the information what you will.
The same people who have a problem with these cameras are the same ones who are on tiktok posting their crap on a daily basis.
Quite the headline, an individual who murdered 4 people in cold blood and people are concerned about the technology used to capture him? The courts have clearly ruled that you have no right to privacy in a public place.

“Controversial?” How? Not to law abiding citizen’s its not.
you really think criminals are speaking up about anything?
I like how the line between privacy and security keeps blurring further. no matter how they try to justify there really does need to be guidelines and reviews and 13 months is not deleting quickly enough anything over 30 days is to long to hold on the the information

You have no expectation of “privacy” when you step outside of your home. Period.
Rule of thumb: whenever you are in public assume you are being monitored in some way, shape or form. ✌🏾✌🏾
Ahh yes use 1 incident to justify spying on the whole nation. This is why my plate is clear coated and reflective and also why i film everywhere in public… dont like it stay home
Iff all the ccrv footage is controlled by the city i can foia request all of it and use it for whatever i want since it would be considered public record. I guess if you want me spying on everyone too thats okay
No matter how good they make it sound. They will eventually use it to take away your freedom
Hey get a clue in investigative reporting: Florida allows for administrators to enter plate numbers and track anyone. This includes the Governor’s office. Florida student athletes, already under orders to submit pregnancy tests monthly, can be followed by this system to determine if they are seeking women’s only health care (by the administrators established by the governor). It is an open system already be used to monitor non criminal activity.

Glad to see that california is following in chinas footsteps. Favial recognition cameras coming soon!
Law enforcement are absolutely building a profile on all license plates where you go, when you go, all in service of what those who have power over the data say it’s to keep us safe 😂
It’s only “controversial” for people committing crimes and the idiots who enable them…like the liberal media.
Good but guess what else they do face recognition as well….
OMG, they’re tracking registration (not license) plates of suspected criminals! This invasion of privacy by Big Brother must be stopped!
