On December 17th, parliamentary elections and elections in Belgrade were held. According to official data, the ruling party won the parliamentary elections, and in Belgrade, securing 54 council seats. However, it falls short by two seats to form a majority, while the opposition holds 50 seats. Six council members do not wish to join any coalitions.
On the night of December 18th, the opposition declared electoral fraud. Cameras and audio recordings captured buses transporting people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are not actual residents of Belgrade, presumably to vote in the Belgrade elections, potentially to maintain the ruling party’s hold on power and prevent the opposition from winning.
The opposition claims that this was crucial to the election outcome, a stance supported by some international observers, while the OSCE noted numerous irregularities. Institutions have not taken action on the case of voters from Bosnia, either dismissing all claims without investigation or remaining silent. Institutions are under the control of the ruling party, leaving little room for alternatives.
The opposition believes that the elections were rigged, institutions are unwilling to investigate, and the government dismisses the opposition’s and international observers’ claims as attempts to destabilize Serbia and fabrications. Moreover, they introduce a narrative of a Western attempt to incite a “Maidan” in Serbia, linking it to yesterday’s protests involving broken windows and stone-throwing at the parliament building.
The government and police assert that all of this is the work of the opposition group “Serbia against Violence,” while the opposition rejects these claims, stating that the protests are peaceful, aiming to protect the electoral will, annul the elections, and repeat them under fair conditions. The opposition contends that violence was caused by infiltrated groups and argues that such actions are understandable in a country where institutions are not fulfilling their duties, and elections are not fair.

This political party stood on the graves of dead children (after a school shooting which has not happened before in the country) to create a movement by touching the emotions of people and have no actual things proposed they will do to make the country better.
