Joseph Liow, professor at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies discusses Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s surprise resignation on Monday that thrust the country into political uncertainty.
While Mahathir remains as interim leader, he says that the interim is “really about excluding Anwar from post-Mahathir configuration of power.”

0:57 hey stupid, the situation have changed now. The Pakatan Harapan coalition is already a minority party in the parliament due to 11 members of Anwar’s own party (PKR) left the party to become independent members, plus Mahathir’s party (Bersatu) also left the coalition. Thus even Mahathir now cannot guarantee Anwar’s next position. Whether he can become the next PM or not.
Udah lo diam lah. Jangan terkaitkan negara kami.
92 stil majority but not simple majority which need 112. if 11 member not quit, 102. not included warisan for sabah.
Fair assessment at the time of this interview and report. I fully agreed with what was said by this professor at this moment in time. Anwar seems to be losing support caused partly by his own party members whom he is unable to control. Much less other members of other political parties. If Anwar can’t even command leadership within his own party so how could he expect to command leadership of the entire PH coalition? There were simply too much squabbling within PKR which caused his own downfall.
fairplayall Oh it’s not just the greed of a trusted partner. There are simply too much bickering and squabbling among his PKR members much to the distaste of the rest of us who are not members of any political party. He’s just like a father with unruly children who have no respect for their parents.
Anwar cant even keep his own house (party) in order, and we expect him to keep the country (as PM) in order? I despise Mahathir but I’m not convinced with Anwar either. I’d rather have Najib back in power, especially if somehow he is ruled to be innocent after his trials, which is actually a real possibility. The progress Malaysia had under Najib’s 9 year rule was much more than Mahathir’s 20-plus year stints and counting.
fairplayall
Don’t put the blame on the “greed of a trusted partner” as he himself was the “greed of a trusted partner” during 1997 crisis.
Anwar being super patient is pure cowshit. Why johari abdul, abdullah sani and their kind keep attacking the pm since the early formation of their own govt.
Have u ever think how absurd it is?
it’s not end the there but become even crazier with the threat from the so called “otai reformasi” to organize a street demo against the their own govt.
Who is actually bickering and squabbling over the power?
The greedy partner or the greedy for power himself?
“No one can dispute he us the most deserved to be the pm after having gone thru so much hardship doe hus country.”
That statement is not just exaggerated but a false claim too. His hardship and trouble is just for him to get the power not the country. He has no proof nor locus standi to claim any achievement for the sake of national interest or benefit.
fairplayall
So whay dun just wait till GE15. For Mahathir to gracefully exit. Let Anwar lead the coalition then an win it under his charisma?.
Why trying to force a current PM whom has help WiN the election for PH.. to empty the chair midway?. Do you think Dr.M should deserved to humiliated/used just like that?
fairplayall If ge15 be called now, PH will lose. Mahathir is not too dumb to call for a snap election now. His moves are beyond genius. Nobody can precisely predicts his next moves.
Pakatan harapan sucks balls
What other Malay leaders are left if not Anwar ?
The rest have still not yet clean their mouth after makan so much suap.
Dr. Maszlee and Dr Zulkifli is way better than Anwar who is immoral, corrupted, no principles.
hahahaha
Nobody knows what’s gonna happen next, the prof. can only asses. Anwar may seems losing his bid but he is not losing his hope and chances are still there. Example: when Tun Mahathir was running for premiership nobody was confident of his winning but at the end all those experts analysis proven to be talk only nothing more.
Anuar is not worthy to be PM.
He is immoral, corrupted and have no principles.
I agree. This is an on going drama. We still do not know the ending yet.
@@Emsyaz Anwar may not worthy of premiership to some but there still be people favor him as much bro.
Depend on this sort of old style leadership of a 94+ years vintage man. Who is already past his retirement age by 34 years !
I feel so sad for Anwar.
no need lah.. his boys and him that create all the trouble. he really deserved this

Mahathir is the samurai of Asia now….
Dr M, the most selfish man in the world. A man that reneged on his promise.
Lily Cheng What promise? PH collapse prematurely. DAP and PKR pressure him to step down. Then he did just that and all happened before 2 years.
Something going wrong somewhere with PKR & DAP. A Political game. We observe on their move from beginning at the end is a false promises to citizen. Life became difficult to those is in low & middle class income.
Its not the fault…its Azmin Ali and the gangs became the traitor..to PH govt by meeting BN and arranged the dinner ..between PAS, BERSATU, AND BN….
Billy Josh Chew PH collapse bcoz components keep pressure TunM to step down. TunM did just that then. PPBM also follow suit and loss majority.

Then u want umno back with all the corrupted leaders
@@JKaren-oo4so Trust me, even they are BETTER than Anwar.
@you tube Anwar is CIA dog, Malaysia will be battlefield between two big power had Anwar is in charge..
Yes Tun M lagi baik.
Anwar should get the PM , fairly. Lead n Win, not trying to grab mid term frm the current PM who hs helped dispose a 60years ruling goverment. Even got Anwar out frm Jail. The deputy Prime Minister post is given to Anwar’s wife. Thats not enough security for U Anwar?
The PM position supposed to hand over to Anwar after 2 years. It is agreed between the coalition parties.
@@JKaren-oo4so
Politician promises?.🤭
and when theres MP’s that disagree & wants the PM to continue full term.
then what?.
Grab? The old man used Anwar’s party logo to win the election…the arrangement was for a two-year handover
@@AKV9021
I ask u my friend, is that handover even democratic?. Why wouldnt Anwar proof to us that if he’s the Promised PM , win it with his leadership.
Do you think, mid way handover, there would’nt be any major changes in the Cabinet seat by Anwar?.
Whats that?. Instability..right?. Hw can you make sweeping revamp long term, it theres no plan,
mahatir like musang
As a Malaysian, totally agree with Joseph’s well educated judgement on the matter. It seems that all these were a calculated move to ensure Anwar does not take helm of the country! It is an instrumental but manipulative move by Mahathir to ensure Anwar and PKR never end up having a PM candidate in Malaysia.
A crook is always crook.we know better.
Racist mp’s in the first degree.
The country is f..k, rich become richer, the poor will suffer.they will never change. Look at Singapore today.where are we.
ANWAR IS THE NXT PM WHICH WAS PROMISED BY MAHATHIR…a promise is a promise…he stated that he will pass the pm post to Anwar on live Press conference…and Mahathir is famous of making U turns which the Malaysians hated of…on say this the other day say that….

So sad for all Malaysians who trust him.
Who is new PM, please not from the umno, PKR, DAP and so on. Let the younger generations decide for Malaysia future. Let the Malaysian people vote who the next PM of Malaysia. Not need to Go for GE15. Only PM post.
Mahathir should retire for good, before he harm Malaysia image, not his
Why are they against Anwar?
Because his stand against cronyism, his support for multiracialism and his pledge for a needs-based economic agenda is against everything the old regime stood for
@@AKV9021 thank you.
@@AKV9021 and because he’s DAPig running dog.. 👍
The reason they want to get rid Anwar is because he is against corruption and embezzlement. PH lost in 5 bye elections because the leadership of Dr Mahathir was getting no where as the general public was frustrated. Making statements about Kashmir Jammu has caused bitter relation between India and Malaysia. India retaliated by buying less palm oil. Before the 14 general elections PH promised to solve the UEC issue. Due to pressure the issue was prolonged after PH has won. Dr Mahathir wasn’t sincere in handing over power to Anwar. Even staunch PH supporters boycotted PH candidate. It was a signal for Dr Mahathir to step down. Perhaps now he regrets why didn’t he hand over power to Anwar.
Let them run & ruin their country
Karma for Mahatir. ..God bless the king…UMNO will rise again…Najib is so Blessed…Malaysia roar the Asia…congratulations UMNO 😍😍😍

If God Willing ……..anything is possible.Mirror mirror on the Wall…….Who is the Next PM………TS MY
Joseph…your guesssing is totally wrong.
This is Malaysia. People hates when Chinese and Indian becoming rude whilst in power. They showed their real attitudes becoming insensitive towards Malays.Royasl and Religion.
Malays reject Najib due to corruption. Malays give mandate to PH because of Mahathir.
But when PH got power DAP stalwarts like Ramasamy, Kulasegaran, Nga Kok Meng, RamKarpal, Kasthuri, Ronnie Liu are stabbing Malays heart on their comments and actions. They have touch the limit and patience of the Malays.
PH fails to understand these sentiments Rakyat are fed up about it. Rakyat especially Malays reject PH in 5 RPK local elections.
So as indegious majority, Malays now realise Anwar now is no longer the right person or suitable as PM candidates. Even with heart break Malays also have to say no to Mahathir.
Anwar is a trojan horses amongst non Malays either thru political parties or NGO’s to control the country.
Anwar only use by establishment as proxy to promote their agenda.
Without Malays support PH is totally wipe out.
Anwar lost, the day someone make public a video of Azmin Ali having gay sex with someone who insisted he was doing it willingly with him. He also commented Datuk Azmin is very attractive and macho. The origin of this video is still unknown but all fingers pointed at Anwar’s camp, with on without Anwar’s approval. .
Fast forward. Dr Mahathir is no longer the Prime Minister. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is the current Prime Minister. Anwar claims to have the support of the majority. Lets see when the parliament convenes for the second time in July 2020.
PKR dan PAN pencacai DAP. Ayuh pengundi Johor benamkan ketiga tiga mereka di PRN Johor..
