In an exclusive interview with NBC News, three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas announced she is planning to compete in her first competition since 2016 after some time off from the sport. She says she hopes to “represent USA one more time” in this year’s Olympics in Paris.

#GabbyDouglas #Gymnastics #Olympics
Grass is..
We love you! She was amazing in Rio and even better in London 😍 see ya in Paris!
yea but she said she was not happy in the 2013-2016 quad so now she said shes found her love for the sport again and if shes like she was in 2012 shes going to the paris olympics but i think she will be better now then ever she looks more happy and she said theres more support among older gymnasts cause people use to retire after like 18 but her simone trinity thomas they are pushing the age boundaries
@@dallasbarbotiko6940she also has stiff competition not just from Simone, but also someone like Sunni Lee who is still training as well
Gabby is a great champion but there are so many top tiered gymnasts vying for 5 spots on the Olympic team. We know Simone has one, so there are 4 spots left for Shilise, Leanne, Suni (if she’s healthy), Skye, Jordan, Joscelyn, Jade, Gabby, Tiana, Zoe, Kayla, etc.
What an amazing young woman! I would not bet against her no matter what she does.
*”What led to this? Why now, to get back into the competition”? I imagine she know what “led to this”. Quick Answer: A dominating Simone Biles.*
*The US women’s gymnastics team is 🔥. So, I say ‘good luck’ to Douglas. However the cake is sliced, I can easily see the U.S. women gymnasts dominating in Paris.* 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥈
No she’s coming back because she wants to have fun with it .. she didn’t get that the last time she competed.
Not everything is about Simone .. to add this isn’t even her first comeback 🥱
Gabby’s comeback started a few months before Simone’s did, so Simone had nothing to do with it. Though I’m sure Simone’s return this year has lit Gabby’s fire even further.
Some of the change she is probably referring to is now people will believing the gymnast when they are being abused. Since 2016 the power tables have turned after the Nasser was sent to prison and other higher ups corruption was exposed. The speeches gymnast made in court and in front of congress were incredible. Having the support of the nation willing to protect you and the little athletes coming behind must be profound.
Nasser stabbed a bunch of times in prison undoubtedly helped many gymnasts and their families move forward.
Yay Gabby❤️❤️❤️
Love you gabs❤❤ would love for you to win
I want you to win a bars medal 🏅
Go Gabby!!!
Do it, sis!!! God help her!!!
❤
I hope she makes the team!!! You go, girl!!!
It might be too late for her to make the team again this time. The field this year is going to be STACKED. Im interested to see where she is physically at the upcoming comp
Not really US is weak on bars and even beam! We need her!
Trials are at the end of June. The Games are at the end of July.
@@TheMajesticice01 What? I think your information is a little out of date. Even without Suni or Gabby, we have three gymnasts with potential to place on bars (Shilese, Zoe, and Simone–though Simone is a longshot, but if she upgrades I wouldn’t count her out), and two more with potential to make the final (Skye, Jordan). On beam we have two with potential to place (Simone and Skye) and another with potential to make the final (Shilese). And if Suni is healthy enough to compete on bars and beam (which I was skeptical of for a while, but she seems to be finding her stride with managing her health and still training her top skills), then the US field is insanely stacked on these two events, since Suni has the potential to place in either one.
The current weakness for the US is floor, which is kind of crazytown given that it’s an event on which we’ve always dominated.
@@erinm9445Simone biles is strong on floor.
@@marcusgraham5084 Yes, but she’s only one person.
Yay Gabby🎉🎉
And I would absolutely welcome her again. ❤❤
A champion, an icon, a hero, a legacy, the moment
Gabby looks very strong and ready in the gym. Just effortless on the bars and the US needs super solid beam workers, which Gabby also is. Imagining an UB lineup of Shilese, Gabby, and Suni 😻
What about Simone?
@@marcusgraham5084there are better gymnasts than Simone on bars so I think she could rest for UB
@@sinhueherrera8984 ummm? Ok. But as someone once said: There maybe gymnasts who can win without Simone, if they hit there routines (in this case: floor). Key words: IF THEY HIT.
But with Simone, the team has an extra cushion/guarantee of a more Dominant victory and points.
With Simone on the team, you are guaranteed a GOLD medal 8or 9 out of 10 times. Case in point: World Gymnastics Championship at Antwerp last year; and at Paris, it will be a repeat. Trust me.
P.S. I’m still waiting to see which other gymnasts you are referring to. BTW, this version of Simone at Paris is going to make Tokyo 2020 become a dead and buried memory.
Go Gabby Go!!!!
Can’t wait for this year’s summer olympics in Paris
Gabbyyyyyyyyyy
Blessings, do it for God
With Gabby back on barssss. Oh this is going to be a very tough team to make
I still can’t believe she’s back!! Best news of 2023!!! How exciting!!
It’s 2024
@@aubreypassey6086 She announced her comeback last year though
@@aubreypassey6086 she announced her comeback in 2023 but we it’s the best news of 2024 so far as well lol when she makes the Olympic team that will actually be the best news of 2024 ❤
@@leahvatson6379I love how you guys have very little faith in her
How wonderful! Gabby, Suni Lee, and Simone … what a foundation for team USA!
Dream Team!
Chelsie Memmel inspired so many people, by returning to compete in her 30s and afyer a decade off the sport.. . Without that, I don’t think we’d see Gabby returning as she is.
박수 칠 때 떠나라😢
I used to watch Gymnastics all the times when she was around, and kind of stopped when she left. Love her and cheering for her in this goal!!!
All those old competitions are available on YouTube if you’re interested in re-watching them!
Ok so grown women actually competing in Women’s gymnastics. Go figure lol
It’s not like that for every sports though, especially figure skating nowadays!
She seems ready to win🎉
I’d love to see Gabby finally get an Olympic medal on bars! She was so close in 2016 (qualified 3rd with the highest execution score of the entire competition)
It’s a very very very tough competition this cycle. But hope she rises up on the day
I don’t think that will happen. Kaylia Nemour has the most difficult bars routine in the world, incredibly difficult, and Suni Lee has a full twisting Jaeger, which is going to make really tough competition. Then the Chinese on bars are excellent too. If Gabby makes the Olympic team, I don’t think she has a chance of medalling in bars final.
GABBY!!!!!! Welcome back!!!!!! We love you gurl👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I love that she took some time away for her own well being and rediscovered her love for gymnastics. Love seeing her smile again! You go, Gabby!
I can’t wait to see her compete again!!!
Stay healthy, Gabby. You got this. And you were outstanding throughout your entire career, including Rio 2016.
❤You Go! You’re an amazing athlete. You can do it!
I always thought it woukd be hard for a lot of young people to give up the sport they sacrificed so much for and worked so hard for.
Hopefully more people have matured and everyone can leave their childish hate at home when she competes. Its never happened before, but one could hope.
Best wishes, Gabby! ❤
Lol we know Mr Biles will be watching…then going on podcasts to say “I’ve never heard of Gabby Douglass!” 😆
Gabby Douglas and all of the previous medal winners need to stop competing, go and get a real job and give someone else a chance to compete for a medal. You only need one medal!
Gymnastics is a job lol! There are multiple athletes who return to their sport to continue competing. They shouldn’t have to stop if they don’t want to, especially since they’ve given their whole lives to do so. There will be more opportunities for others to shine. They’ll get their chance.
Now don’t you have a shift at Walmart you need to get back to? 🤣
exciting ❤
I bet white Republicans are SHAKING over this.
It’s a bit It’s a troll
No TV broadcast for the winter cup?? Just a YouTube stream? Why??????
Gabby seems to remain young, spirited and beautiful. I hope she makes the US-Team and can medal. It would be a first to medal at her age in this sport with a very short lifespan for gymnasts.
Things have changed a lot! The women’s gymnastics career lifespan has extended considerably in the last 8 years.
16 year olds are now in the minority and women over 20 are common.
At the 2023 world championships, the gold medal winning American team were all in their early 20s or older with one 16 yo.
Brazil made history by winning the silver medal – their gymnasts were between 25 and 33 yo with one 19 yo.
France made history by winning the bronze medal – their gymnasts were at least in their early 20s with one younger gymnast.
In the 2021 Olympics, there was a record number of women over age 20 competing. I believe the Dutch team had an average age of 28. The Germans’ average age was 25 or 26.
There’s been a recent trend of women college gymnasts returning to elite (that is the term for international competition representing their country) after college. MyKayla Skinner took a year off from Utah to prepare for the 2020 Olympics so she is generally seen as the trend setter.
Things were made a lot easier for other women to follow this path because
starting in 2022, the NCAA allows athletes to have sponsorship deals, so they no longer have to make a decision between going pro and going to college on a sports scholarship. They can do both.
There are a number of current college gymnasts who were on the 2021 Olympic team or were an alternate, who are still on the national team, and who are trying to make the 2024 Olympics. Eg. Jade Carey at Oregon State and Leanne Wong at Florida. Jordan Chiles of UCLA and Kayla DiCello of Florida have taken the year off to prepare for the Olympics.
(This also applies to a number of college gymnasts who are not American/compete for other countries/have dual citizenship with USA but compete for other countries. Eg. Confirmed NCAA 2024 Olympians: Luisa Blanco of Alabama for Colombia, Aleah Finnegan of LSU for Philippines, Anya Pilgrim of Florida for Barbados.) ❤
I would love for Gabby to return to Gymnastics!! I’ll be rooting for her.
I would love to see Gabby in Paris. She is and has always been a class act. She looks happy and beautiful. I’m excited to see what she brings! <3
AMAZING! If Gabby and Simone make #3 what history.
I want her to win so bad!!! I’m elated people are happy for her comeback
The us black gymnasts ain’t joking they are really working so hard
People need to understand when to stop
Well, good luck with that, Gabby. Only Simone has had a successful comeback in recent years.
She’s got an uphill battle I can’t even imagine her making it — it’s crazy but I would love nothing more for her to prove me wrong that would make my day/month/year!!!!!
She will make it easily. The girls are not doing the difficult stuff. She gets are her skills back. It’s nothing. Outside of jordan. Simone. Shilese. No other girl can keep up with Gabrielle at her best, period.
Bars
@@blackmenachievellc3770 doesn’t work that way my friend— new to gymnastics? Why do u think it’s so unprecedented for an all-around champion to come back for one Olympic let alone a third after skipping one— it’s NEVER been done. The last time Gabby barely made it back and she was the only one on the team not to win an individual medal so it wasn’t like she made it back easily and she fell twice and was ranked lower than others that didn’t make the team during both days of Olympic trials, because her bars was needed it helped her make it to the US team it was controversial but she made it in.
She’s now 28 yrs old and things don’t get easier as u age— it’s like I said and I didn’t stutter, “it will be an uphill battle for her ti make it in”. U said it’ll be easy if she was at her best true but my point is people aren’t at their best this far advanced in their careers.
I love Gabby but I’m not new to this so I understand the challenges she will have to face to make it on a team and chances are not in her favor but like I said I will be cheering her on the loudest hoping to be proved wrong!
I am grateful for my body 🤍🖤🤎🤍🤎🖤 beautiful 🩷

Thank you Gabby 🩵
Go Gabby🎉
inspirational that an athletes age range in gymnastics competition can expand beyond the extremely short confining precedents; better sports med and training, recovery knowledge now etc
Super cool. Go Gabby!
She is glowing
If she decides to be a good teammate great. Otherwise, no thanks.
I’m so pleased to hear this. Gabby will always be the first! Always!
Imo shes gotta earn the spot fair and square like anyone else
