By the time they figure out 2024’s budget it’s going to be time for 2025’s budget. Republicans can’t govern. One might expect that adults in Congress might have outgrown the child’s game of ‘kick the can’.
Government shutdown or not they’ve got to quit spending us into a hole
Fund Ukraine. We either pay up now, pay up later, or deal with a radically worse situation in several years.
Paying up now keeps the war going or turns it in favor of our allies.
Paying later runs a substantial risk of Ukraine losing
The radically worse situation is that once Russia got away with the war in Georgia they went to take Crimea and then they went for the rest of Ukraine. It wont end until Putin is put in his place or dead. After Ukraine it will be a widening out to other countries he thinks he can overrun. Everyone will have to spend more money to defend themselves then and that means less global trade. Less global trade means costs go up for a lot of stuff and the quality of life goes down.
Beyond all that there is the simple idea that we have two paths. One where we are good to good people or one where we turn our back on them and let someone ruin their lives with war and authoritarian actions. I know its hard but this is something we need to do not just for them, but for ourselves. If you want to see yourself as a good and decent person its going to be much harder if we abandon them.
