Could the government ban #TikTok? The House passed a bill that could ban the #socialmedia app in the U.S., but a lawyer from the Knight #FirstAmendment Institute explains why they believe it would be unconstitutional.

this is a social media app that is controlled by the CCP, NOT a newsworthy establishment there are enough other social media platforms that allow users to access the same or similar functions and volume of voice that NOT having access to TikTok would not largely impact their lives, money or audience reach significantly.
also NBC News! follow up on the segment that Forbes just put out. That should provide an even greater clarity to the actual size and scope of the information access problem.

If they want to keep it. Let them. They should sign an agreement that the government will not be responsible if something happens to them or they do something to themselves the family can cannot sue the American government.
“A robust privacy law.” You mean like implementing regulations which state that personal data of American citizens can’t be housed in locations that are easily accessible by foreign adversaries? Exactly what they’re trying to do.
This legislation isn’t an outright ban on TikTok. It’s a strong-armed attempt at forcing the company to house their data in a more secure location (i.e. not in a location where the Chinese government can easily exploit it)
Ceo of tiktok testified in congress that the us protected data of tiktok is stored in us. Unless there is proof that testimony is false its all speculative.
And also it fixes the fact that foreign adversaries currently can manipulate Americans with predatory algorithms and propaganda.

These congress people move fast when they WANT to
Meanwhile China bans Instagram, FB and Twitter for the same reasons that this ban would.
China CCP propaganda. Tiktok is bad full stop
I think this is a slippery slope but I think that it’s a good idea to look at it very closely considering who owns the company and how much technology they have stolen from us already and the way they are trying to indoctrinate our children I think it’s a very good idea to look at it closely and I don’t necessarily think that it would be a bad idea to ban it even though it is a slippery slope because of first amendment rights
Is a communist owned business protected by our first amendment rights
Look at these addicts advocating for their drug TikTok haha the west is done for.
America is a fallen empire. Let the dumb dumbs keep their tik tok.
This has nothing to do with first amendment rights. US people do not have the right to use apps owned by private companies.
The American people have to ban that CCP spy tool… not the government. 🫡🇺🇸
Nope Vote stop foreign owned including Fox News
New law: No foreign entity shall own any U.S. infrastructure. To include utilities, farmland and communication networks.
Man I would love this. But America runs on Dunkin, I mean money
So… Australian-owned Fox News ought to be disbanded. I concur.
@@patrickrameau Australia is a US ally lol. China isn’t. try again
@@sirshart2006 “No foreign entity…”
That’s actually basically what this “ban” is. Fake news is calling it a ban, but it’s actually just a requirement for china to sell it to a us company.
All they have to do revoked their licenses, which they need to use, cell towers and satellite service, kinda like Russia and China dose to American companies
She shouldn’t say that with a smile knowing people DO NOT have the ability to exercise their 1st amendment right when they are arbitrarily cancelled for saying innocuous things someone else may not agree with. If we can lose our right to exercise the 1st amendment like that, TikTok can lose its ability to be an outlet for the first amendment. End of discussion. I see no problem with the legislation. The two concepts are tightly coupled. Besides, companies don’t have first amendment rights, only people.
Free speech is not the same as consequence – free speech
@@Kiddflash02you’re not alone in this world the creator of heaven and earth Yehovah wants a personal relationship with you through his only son Jesus
Companies have personhood. Political campaign contributions are considered to be forms of free speech.
What part of this app don’t ANY citizen understand, so gonna clear it’s a SPY APP from China who uses it’s algorithms to manipulate the dumb people who have it. And it steals your information and data
Wow, but they don’t seem to care about censorship on other platforms. Maybe it is time to categorized them as publishers.
Repeal 230 now!
China has no rights in America!
The government will do what it wants. Get it yet?
No one cared one bit about TikTok until some young people “pretend-reserved” tickets to prank a Trump rally in 2020, then bragged about it on TikTok. Suddenly, this app that was mainly used by middle-school girls to share dance moves was declared an Enemy of the State.
There are other platforms. Stand up for American production not foreign. YouTube is American and is the same free speech platform if that’s all your looking for in this. Many other platforms available.
no they dont you dope
Why ban social media. Shouldn’t the parents show their parenting skills on this? If its banned, its banned from all of us not just those kids. Real talk.
TikTok needs banned… China has every American social app banned.
No influential country in todays world would allow a foreign adversary to have direct influence into there population.
How about this, if they allow Facebook, twitter and Snapchat we will allow TikTok? — It would never happen.
We are boosting there economy and single handedly helped them create a tech unicorn, they would never give us access to there market!
It’s not just about the kids. Look at how propaganda works and how it’s been used before
When you go for a walk just realize that no pickles can grow from the ground if your goldfish isn’t in charge of the plantation.
you’re not alone in this world the creator of heaven and earth Yehovah wants a personal relationship with you through his only son Jesus
I don’t think they want to stop Americans from using the platform, they just don’t want everyone’s data being collected by unauthorized parties without their consent.
The first amendment has nothing to do with social media. It has to do with free speech. It doesn’t mean kids should be allowed to access any social media they would like. lol incompetence
Whe NBC get Hindu thots
Government will do as it sees fit. End of.
They should ban it, the judge claimed it was against the first amendment EVEN THOUGH tiktok on occasion has banned people for expressing their right to free speech. So ironic it is. Tiktok on a daily intrudes on people’s rights on a daily, if not an hourly basis. They’re not even an American owed private company like X and Facebook who also strips people of their right to free speech.
Idiots think its unconstitutional like over staying their visas and anchor babies
They wont protect our constitutional but they will waste millions on a cccp site that should have never been allowed here in the states to begin with.
It’s not a tik tok ban…it’s a Chinese communist party influence over and intelligence gathering on American citizens ban.
Lol anyone else gonna point out she’s got two accents
