Nah. Take Rolex, Louis Vuitton and Starbucks for example. These aren’t Casio, Eastpak and Costa. They’re goliaths of their respective industries coated with an idea of exclusivity, while providing a mid product at best produced by the millions and easily accessible to anyone with money. Nothing is exclusive these days.
So long as something is expensive, it will become a status simple. Even easier to become one when there’s no barrier to use.

Most people in the comment section don’t even know what monopoly entails, arguing they’ll “never give up their iPhone for an android phone”. No one is forcing you or saying give up your iPhone for and android one. Just learn what monopoly actually is before you put up a comment.

This whole thing makes me think of the – Wizard or Oz – movie. Turns out that when the curtain is pulled back there is no Great and Powerful Oz there’s only a slick snake oil salesman who took advantage of people. And in this case people’s vanity and sense of status has been manipulated by creating the “illusion” that apple products are better by purposely devising a scheme to make other devices appear inferior when in actuality the opposite is true.
