Not a day goes by where I don’t wake up & fall asleep thinking about the people of Gaza & what they’re going through. I imagine what it must feel like to be injured & trapped underneath the rubble of your home or apartment building. Maybe with your dead kids right next to you. And nobody knowing that you’re down there for god knows how long. What you must be thinking at a moment like that. I’d probably rather die. It makes me sick to my stomach. I’ll never forget when an apartment building suddenly collapsed on itself (“pancaked”) in Florida a couple of years back & what a huge deal it was. Entire fire departments were dispatched to try to rescue anyone who might be trapped under the rubble. I remember that Israel sent over a team of rescue workers to help dig through the rubble. The building was located in a largely Jewish community. All of the rescue teams searched for weeks but ultimately they were only able find a few dozen (24?) people left alive, out of the 100+ who either lived or were staying there. All of the others had died. The families of the missing were saying that their parents or other family members lived in the building & that they had just spoken to or seen them only hours before the building collapsed. Every time they’d find a body the media would announce the person’s name & tell their life story. But the victims in Gaza won’t get any of that & they won’t even get a burial. Which to many means that they won’t get to rest in peace. At some point, what’s left of their bodies will simply be swept up by a bulldozer & discarded along with the rest of the rubble & debris. It’s both incredibly sad & infuriating. And it should be unacceptable to anyone & everyone. These weren’t buildings that collapsed because of some structural defect or something. They & the people in them, were intentionally bombed. And they continue to be. Nothing justifies what Israel is doing to Gaza & its people. If it’s not genocide, then I don’t know what is.
