1. The “China” people know today is China PRC. It was only establish in 1949. Since 1949, China PRC never owned Taiwan for even one single minute.
2. Of all the so-called 5000 years of ancient history of mainland regimes, only Qing Dynasty, ever ruled half of Taiwan for 212 years (1683-1895). Qing Dynasty ceded Taiwan to Japan PERPETUALLY as written in Treaty of Shimonoseki. And the first country to fully ruled Taiwan was Japan for 50 years till end of WWII.
3. Ancient China and China PRC are totally different countries/dynasties and regimes. China PRC did not succeed the Qing Dynasty, the last dynasty of mainland. Since Qing lost Taiwan to Japan even before Qing ended, there is no way China PRC succeeded Taiwan from Qing Dynasty.
4. Since Taiwan was perpetually ceded to Japan, there is no such thing as Taiwan “returning” to any mainland regimes.
5. Taiwan was freed from Japan after WWII and was under supervision by US and UN. It then developed to become a country of freedom and democracy ruled by Taiwan government over the last 70 years. China PRC never governed Taiwan.

On the other hand, sustainable future growth for companies in any advanced economy will also depend on the massive Chinese market.
