There’s a renewed push from the Association of Flight Attendants for lawmakers to change infant flight policy, keeping babies off laps and in their own seats on planes. NBC News’ Miguel Almaguer has more details on what this could mean for families.

*Same **#principles** apply as to those principles of a car seat!*
Lies again? Incline Seat Doggy Style
flight law is so outdated… why lap babies are allowed on planes but not in cars? babies should be in car seats on planes or in cars… only dumb parents are willing to risk their babies’ lives over paid seats..
I always thought that having babies on laps was dangerous
Long time coming. Cut the crap and put your kid in a car seat.
Maybe if you actually force the airlines to have bassinets that fit babies upto 2 years old it wouldn’t be an issue
Bassinets are not even that heavy, I have one in my room no more than 12lbs for my 4 mo old. I doubt one for a plane seat will be heavier than a stand alone bassinet. Even if the seat bassinet was 12lbs, if that breaks the plane maybe that plane shouldn’t be in the air.
I’m confused by this comment? A bassinet would also be a projectile. Bring the babies car seat on the plane.
How many babies have been killed on airplanes so far because of air turbulence?
? Should we wait for one to happen?
@Wendy I would say yes, we should wait until something is a documented problem before we make a law requiring people to pay a lot more money to airline companies. There are thousands of flights every day. If this hasn’t been a problem yet, then I don’t see why we would need to make parents pay more money for an extra seat. The news article cited the danger of flying objects in the plane, but a child seat won’t protect a child from a flying object coming through the air.
@@ucsbgirlie18 ….how much is you child worth?🤯
@@37Raffaella My child is priceless. Yours, not so much.
@@sisterdoublehappiness9714 no….we agree…they should do it!
This is just a scheme to try to start charging parents for their children to fly, this has nothing to do with safety and all about generating more revenue
They should ban children under 3 on airplanes anyways
Real helpful suggestion
I am in support of babies being secured in their own seat.
No don’t be stupid stupid people doing the right things is what we sets us apart from being stupid people when the time to surcure your baby is necessary logic and reasoning behind this proactive approach everyone benefits safety of all it’s passagers are meet and respected
Children that young shouldn’t be on planes anyway. And if the law requires you to use car seats, why are planes any different? You’d get fined if you held your child in your lap while in the car. Maybe this regulation will make some people stop and think if their travel with an infant is really necessary.
Young children can’t fly? 🤣🤣🤣
I agree. They need to be properly restrained!
I’ve never flown, but this and school busses without seat belts never really made sense to me.
If you can’t afford to fly, because you can’t afford extra seats for your kids to ensure their safety and comfort, then you don’t get to travel…bottom line.
Flights are not a human right they are a luxury 🙄🙄.
2 year infant wearing seat belts? How many kids you have? And can you tie your baby to a belt for 18 hours? For 2 year old there is already a cradle. Why u think they can be tied to a seat like a 10 min drive in car?
So you cannot sit there on a parents lap in the car, so why is a plane considered a vehicle. This seems logical af!! FAA and airlines are idiots!
Ask yourself how much good a seatbelt will do for you or your kid when you’re plummeting to the ground from 35000 feet.
Yet they put kids in a school bus. Without seatbelts
No baby can sit for 18 hours or 7 hours unless boozed like pilots and crew. Those is support are not parents or can become one. Can the airline guarantee passenger safety in case of air trouvalanc?
It’s just common sense. That’s why you see most parents choosing to bring their infant seats on board now. They are not saying the baby has to be in the car seat for the full flight. You would of course be needing to feed the baby, change them etc;
Back in the mid 1900’s parents didn’t know any better when it came to car seats in cars and countless babies and children died unnecessarily. But now in todays world with the knowledge we have, it would be criminal and you would obviously lose custody of your children if you chose to skip using a car seat. It’s a time for change again. That’s ok! Now that we know better for flying safety, we can do better and there will be less unnecessary deaths.
It is recommended that infants not be in car seats for extended periods of time as this can cause problems. Why do we allow non experts to make laws/rules. I also wish they would stop saying it’s free. You have to pay a percentage of the adult’s ticket depending on the airline. This is just another money grab.
That’s why we booked the extra seat and brought our own car seat, when our now grown children were small. Imagine our dismay when we were not allowed to use said car seats. For supposed policy reasons!
They were not very clear in the video about this, how many children are injured annually on flights because they were in adults’ laps? I’m asking sincerely because I genuinely don’t know the answer. Does anybody know?
Thank you. Finally another thinking person that doesn’t just swallow the Kool aid.
Are seats in airplanes designed to properly secure a car seat? I don’t think they have a spot to attach a tether, and I’m not sure how many would be wide enough. They may need the window seat so others can access the aisle. Are window seats statistically more dangerous? What happens on long flights? Babies need to have breaks from car seats. What happens when the baby cries? Will the parents be allowed to remove and comfort the child? Would a baby carrier be a better alternative? It would reduce some of the risk, but still be more comforting for the baby. How many infants are injured from flying on their parents lap each year? If the airlines are going to mandate this out of safety concerns, I think they should absorb most of the costs, especially as the risk is likely low (or the FFA would’ve already regulated it).
What?! Babies in the US travel on planes unrestrained? In Europe, they have to wear a seat belt that attaches to the adult’s seat belt. Why would anyone think it is ok to have unrestrained infants on a plane?
It has always boggled my mind that “lap child” was ever an option. Let’s meet in the middle and charge half price for kids under two, and ban the lap.
