Compared to the far left like Macron who have also flooded and to an extent now lost their country to foreigners, the right is nothing but centrist. I believe that he has finally realized that the trend is badly against him -people hate what he and the EU have done to France. He didn’t do this because he wanted to, this is a last gasp effort to hold power.
I have a theory after listening to other theories. I think he has secret ally threats that have been causing problems, and this gave him an excuse to challenge his own allies.
