As they come to terms with their lost possessions and ruined homes, some Sarasota, Fla., homeowners are demanding answers from the county after some believe that poor infrastructure is to blame for Hurricane Debby’s drastic flooding. WFLA’s Nicole Rogers reports.

#Florida #Hurricane #ExtremeWeather
Why?. Florida is a marsh agriculture land. They just building everywhere in bad zones. Thats whats wrong. Greed breeds devastation.
It is a good thing Florida votes for people who think climate change is real.
Hurricanes are man made. God would never hurt people.
We just need to move people out of these places and return it to nature or make some other use for it like a giant national park
Well you do live in florida
I know it seems so convenient to use this as evidence of climate change, but I assure you, it has nothing to do with that. I worked for the civil contractor that developed everything north and east of this neighborhood, ALL of that area that was formerly old celery fields was filled like 10’ in some places. Yes we built lots of stormwater ponds, but only for 100 year events.
The neighborhood on the other side of Palmer BLVD immediately north of this was chest deep in water when went to start the civil work. I remember it vividly, I was in charge of dewatering the site.
This is a product of poor planning. Not because of climate change, atleast not immediately. I remember my bosses dad who lived in the Amish community there was shocked when he found out we were building subdivisions at the old celery fields.
Remember, it’s easy to blame the highest up officials. Atleast a dozen people had to sign off and stamp their approvals on all of the plans for these developments including the water management district.
For those saying “it’s Florida it floods!” Have literally and actually no idea what they are talking about. There is lots of flood prone areas, but the overwhelming majority of the state of Florida is NOT EVER going to be in a situation like this, no matter what weather events occur. You don’t know anything about our geography.
Greedy developers just wanting to get the houses built and sold don’t care about flood risk.
In 3 years when it happens all over again, the same people will be crying and asking for tax dollars to save them from this “tragedy”….F*cking Move, You Live in a Floodplain!!
“You are all idiots”
Who would think that historic tropical storms flood low areas in flordia. Color me shocked 😲
That is a question for your man trump😂😂😂 see if he will help you😂😂😂
Puzzled… living in Florida?!?
It’s a hurricane what do they want
In the new world coming soon, these things will not exist. 😢
Florida is at or below water level. Duh.
Laurel Meadows is clearly marked a flood risk on realtor app. Baffles me why they would move there in the first place.
Should of just went home after vacation… If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
My brothers and sisters in CHRIST it’s time for all of us to REPENT, RECONCILIATION and LOVE and ACCEPT GOD in our lives 🙏 and OBEY GOD COMMAND 🙏 ❤️
This particular community was in FEMA flood zone X. Not a designated flood zone. It had went decades without an issue and the residents have every right to know whether mitigation measures from other nearby development inadvertently impacted their community. The people commenting “what do you expect you live in Florida” should probably keep their mouths shut.
So why did you live there and it will repeat every time you live there it’s the same rather pattern. It’ll just keep going worse if you know that that area was flooded.
You live in Florida just like I do your Always prone to hurricane damage get over it
Do these people also blame someone for living in a place under sea level and in a red zone for tropical hurricanes? I live ext to a volcano so clearly its the mayor’s fault it erupted ………
That dude has a point…why don’t they just pick the water up and move it somewhere else
So… you live in a house just above sea level and wonder why it floods during a hurricane.
This is why it should be campgrounds only in Florida if there’s a big storm coming everybody can hook their campers up and leave
How many crocs in those waters?!
Well maybe lift your house 8 feet off the ground on steel beams next time. Very sad
https://www.youtube.com/live/H0J-3Aiqcko?si=uy6u_zs-jFv55QC3
Oh geez!!! Come on people
Obviously they didn’t do their research in a hurricane zone before they bought their homes! 🤷 On another note sorry for their loss and many prayers to them!!! 🙏🙏🙏
No such thing as climate change in Florida. Deathsantis said so.😅
Glad we dont have to worry about that..
Maybe they should build some more houses?
Reminds me of what happened with hurricane katrina.
IT’S MANMADE CLIMATE CHANGE AND THIS IS JUST THE START.
i feel bad for her, i hope she will recover… thats my worst nightmare have home flooded.
I live in florida and i agree with most of the comments, you wanted water front property theres a risk of living there….and as soon as i retire in 3 years im moving back to the rockies….
From the 10 seconds that lady spoke…. I’m guessing she needed a little humbling moment.
County allow permits all about money 😮
I live at sea level and Biden made my house flood.
What caused it? You moved in the middle of it.
This is a chance you take when building and living in Florida.
Uhhh..it’s a hurricane!
Here is answers:
– Call your insurance complain there;
– Check flood zones before buying a house;
– Check the same area when is raining before buying a house;
– Understand you are probably 3-4 feet under the sea level;
– Don’t buy a house in a flood area;
– Don’t be stupid;
– Repeat the above steps.
Thanks.
Fun place to visit but I would never purchase a home there.
What kind of answers
You live at sea level on a peninsula you dopes
Its Florida barely above see level this is not 1985, lots more water now adays
Demanding answers from who? Mother Nature? I have a feeling she’s busy & wont be answering back,
The answer is debbie was a hurricane
I wanna live in arizona but i dont temperatures to exceed 100. I wamt answers.
I want to live in rocky mountains but dont want any snow over 1 foot high
It’s CALLED WEATHER, You decide to live in a Swamp low lying area and this is what you get after a Hurricane goes through. Stop your crying and Deal with it
Two words –climate change.
Yeah I’m scratching my head too, how could a hurricane flood a city thats 16 feet above sea level. …. How… 😮
Unbelievable smh
Developers knew 🤷🏿♂️
You’re living on a future reef. Time to move was 30 years ago.
Wait. The people who vote republican and deny climate change want answers. Really??? Really? Ok. Here it is. You voted for this!!
Let’s move to Florida
Don’t live by the water
You wanted to live there, OWN IT!!!
Failed Florida policies.
Over development and shady rezoning stuff going on….
Its the hurricane’s fault, duh!
IF YOU LIVE ON THE COAST ITS TIME TO SELL YOUR HOUSES SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS HAVE TOLD YOU YOU WILL BE UNDER WATER REGARDLESS OF A Storm WITHIN THE NEXT DECADE.
That being said when a storm does come in the water won’t recede like it did before our world is changing and people need to take responsibility to not be ignorant to these facts
Frank Underwood called it
Money is the Mc Mansion in Sarasoda
This is your government taking your tax dollars that supposed to keep your levies and turning them into wetlands and flooding your property with your own money keep voting Democrat
Bottom land was cheap for a reason.
“if youre seeing these imagines and thinking itll never happen to me-” You live in Florida.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes, you get what you voted for, ….etc!!! Now they want the rest of us to pay for their stupidity!?!?
Caveman desantis “Florida Man” big madd but can’t say out loud it’s climate change because he was lied to by his political handlers
Over population, too much lobbying and y’all bought what used to be flooding land. Happens all the time. My ranches stay high and dry in many states. Why, because we don’t let our forests get developed. Catch 22 with liberals!!! Not climate but over building. I salt water play so every piece of property is usually dealing with hurricanes once and while. I’ll merely just move boats to safety. Too many people. Sorry. It’s deep pocket politics.
Answers about what? You live in Florida. 😂😂😂
Get a water pump
Thanks texas
Putin must be held accountable for that hurricane.
Dont buy a home in flood territory, call insurance, and rebuild elsewhere problem solved. Is that what judge judy would say?
Climate change is only gonna make future flooding worse.
You didn’t build a two story.your in Florida they get a lot of hurricanes
So don’t live on a ground level in Florida? Ok, noted. Thank you.
Yes cry and get someone else to fix your thoughtless mess typical female action from strong independent woman .
Walk away and move
Normal FL debates aside, turn huge areas into concrete jungles, VOILA! I feel bad for homeowners, but without natural drainage, we’re shocked?
The answer is simple, don’t live in Florida … people need to start understanding that central to southern Florida ain’t it !
ITS BETTER TO RENT IN FLORIDA
Don’t worry, y’all think climate change isn’t real so don’t pay attention as storms get worse and more often.
dont move into a Flood Zone without realizing the risks. It’s your problem.
Lives below sea level in a swamp filled in 60 years ago–*Floods* 😮😮😮
why why why are people so stupid year after year after year, if you build a house, build the house 5-10 feet higher in flood and hurricane areas, just walk into a fire after you just got burned, people never learn
As a Floridian, I live where in a small town where we’re the lucky ones lol (Lake County)
O insurance. Please thank about this before moving to a swamp.
Im so sorry!! What is Desantis doing to help you??
Your Governor is spending multi-millions in Texas when he should be spending the money in Florida. Also i live in a area in Texas where our green space has disappeared and my outside thermometer always readshigher than the temperature reported on the News.
Y’all live in a swamp then complain about water? Heads up if thier is water in ditches year round your in a swamp.
It’s Florida people, why so suprised.
Uh, you got hit by a hurricane. I don’t think your town officials could have prevented that.
That’s what happens when you remove mangroves all in the name of real estate and capitalism. Mangroves tend to stop flooding when hurricanes hit.
FLORIDA IS A SWAMP STATE…
I REPEAT…
FLORIDA IS A SWAMP STATE..
IT WILL FLOOD… OVER AND OVER AGAIN… WORSE AND WORSE THEN BEFORE…
Take your medicine. Home flipping is a gambling market. Don’t put the bills on others. Clean it up yourselves or sell cheap. My family lost money on three homes. While others made out via corporate welfare. I’ll gotton gains.
I was on a cruise and went through this storm. And later drove to Disney where it followed us and opened heaven’s there. It was fun and not fun
This will cause homeowners insurance to rise, which will cause people to either leave Florida and/or not move to the state. If this becomes a trend, the state government of Florida is going to have to concern itself with how to govern with a shrinking tax base and less with culture wars.
