#LaborDay #Holiday #History
Is this where left wing labor socialist groups and leaders – who were racist eugenists, tried to price Black workers out in the North, So established government wage based wage controls ?
LABOR DAY!
Why don’t we celebrate May Day like the rest of the world?
Intentionally, to not validate global labor and worker unity. Check it out!
Because we have Labor Day? It’s the same thing just on a different day…
Why don’t we actually celebrate Labor day for it’s true meaning?
@@epikgamer4462 Nope. read about it.
@@jamiemeicheng6589 This was done intentionally to sever the connection from global labor and workers across the world. Read up.
we let ourselves be slaves
At least someone has a brain around here ⬆️
😆 right.
Not if you unionize.
McDonald’s workers and landscapers should have a union by now
Ugetcho Good …😂
Sad day when you can’t even afford to barbecue anymore that’s Bidenomics
Yo, Forgetaboutit, it has nothing to do with the administration. It’s corporate greed. Consumers have been getting Gouged since the pandemic. The federal government is only responsive by laws enacted by congress in current times the maga crazies hasn’t addressed the antitrust issues.
Pull yourself up by the bootstraps. Only the shareholders matter.
No sir. Just Regeanomics and Trump policies that cut taxes on corporations and the rich having delayed effects which people only feel years after these corporate puppet presidents left office.
No sir. Just Reagonomics and Trump policies that reduced taxes on corporations and the rich having delayed effects that people only realized the true harm of years after these (“famous” and infamous actors) corporate puppet presidents left office.
No sir. It’s because of Reagonomics and Trump policies that cut taxes for corporations and the rich.
WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!
Big corporations are very anti-uniting efforts. It’s sad most employees are too apathetic to work together in mutual benefit.
HAPPY LABOR DAY!
It does still exists, only that we chose to look in the other way because Mexican or migrants are doing the job and we don’t like to see it….these are the days of the begets and the choosers….
Racist much?
Unpaid labor
When they abolished slavery we all became slaves 🙂
Only because you let them. Get off CULT media and live a life worth living for.
So true!!!
A day to celebrate Mom’s giving birth? Labor day? 🤷🏻♂️
Stop. Lol
“People are changing careers every 1.3 years” Okay…then wouldn’t it make sense to stop tying health insurance to a place of employment and create a single payer system where everyone has the same health insurance that follows you no matter what job you’re at? Wouldn’t that make things far more stable and make sense for the type of economy we have today?
Then you don’t have a free choice.
@@ClaudiaAnn-uk5dv Because being unable to afford private insurance provides a lot of choice? Because staying with a job you hate just for the health insurance is a real choice? Please. A single player takes power away from employers and gives it to employees to leave their jobs, and we should always do whatever empowers employees over employers.
@@jezkerjamez7110 Not everyone hates their job. With out the employers we have no employees. Private Health Insurance most people love.
@@ClaudiaAnn-uk5dv You don’t have a choice now. Cradle to grave healthcare for all. Make it work, don’t take no for an excuse. All of Congress has it! They love the ACA, especially the free part.
@@RichardQuaid I have my private insurance and love it. Insurance free for all would raise your taxes sky high
I’m taking Labor Day off
Interesting how it doesn’t mention that Grover Cleveland specifically wanted to have labor day be as long from May Day (the international labor day) as possible so that American workers could not recognize their solidarity with the international labor force.
Oh, interesting!
When I was younger and people asked me what my favorite holiday was, I being young and naive might have said Christmas because we get presents or Thanksgiving because we eat delicious foods. Now that I’m a grown adult I understand that Labor Day is the only holiday that matters because it was labor unions that gave us weekends off, no more mandatory 12 hour shifts with no overtime, no more child labor. So the next time you’re enjoying your day off on a Saturday or Sunday just remember to be thankful and grateful for labor unions and their hard work.
Yeah, but most low income “wage slaves” still have to work weekends, and DONT even get Labor Day off.
The true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Presents are nice and don’t get me wrong christians exchange presents too.
I’m grate to be a 1099
@@mrs.germain4911yeah… …a lot of people in this country are illegally taxed as contractors. It’s a way for employers to not have you on the same books as employees. You go to the same office, use the same equipment, work the same hours as existing employees, only you have zero benefits. No health care, no PTO, no paid holidays or sick days. 1099, and you’re forced to not earn a wage on Labor Day ONLY because the office is closed. Of course, just try and form a union with your other contractor cohorts, or even inform HR that what they’re doing is illegal. They’ll fire you instantly. Your contract is on a need basis, and they no longer need you. …they can easily replace you with an unpaid intern dying to have your job on their resumé.
May not apply to you specifically, but 1099 is not so great for many, especially since your employer takes forever to give you the 1099, even the employees you work with got their form two months before you. And you can’t even deduct expenses like gas, since you’re not driving to your office, since everything you use is the “client” (employer).
Too bad they didn’t put you in charge of this video. You got it right, they got it wrong. Even with unions on the decline, they still changed everything for everybody. I don’t know what the point of this video was. It wasn’t the “meaning behind Labor Day”.
You forgot the haymarket affair. Something your employeers don’t want you to discuss
This is a direct result of jobs going overseas. Manufacturing going to China. We are supposed to be better off according to this video. Another Media Lie.
i just want the day off. i don’t care about the story behind it. 🙄
😂 I think that’s how most people view it.
🤣🤣🤣 A black woman in the thumbnail, when black women as a group do the least amount of work in the U.S. Besides filing for government assistance. They have a lock on that practice. 🤦
So Labor Day honors the unions of yesteryear, even though most low income employees still work overtime, weekends, AND don’t even have Labor Day off? They can’t even mention the word “union” out of fear of being fired, due to union busting tactics management were trained to spot and eliminate.
Unions are strong in some areas and offer a lot of good things. A lot of companies spread half truths like they force you to pay dues and things like that buy don’t say that the money fir dues goes towards fighting for better conditions and a higher pay scale. Unions can be a great thing if they’re ran properly with the right people.
the minimum wage is still $7.25 here. Unions are scarce. Even chains that have unions out of state don’t have chains here. I remember starting pay at my very first job was $8/hr. That was back when the minimum wage was $5.15. My friend was making a little over $6, and she said it was because of union fees. I thought that was silly, because I was making so much more than her doing the exact same job. However, I did not know my rights, so I NEVER got a break, unless I worked over 6 and a half hours. Then it was a mandatory clock out unpaid 30 minute break, which I wished they had just scheduled me 6 hours instead. They would also keep me past midnight sometimes (I was 17, and in high school). Most of my schedule was “on call,” so I couldn’t have any kind of social life because I might have to work that day. Lots of little things that I had to deal with like that which probably was against some law. But my point is that me, and my friend who was paid significantly less for doing the same job because she had a union would still be working tomorrow, Labor Day.
@UmmYeahOk Yea, most holidays are double time in unions, though, which is way more than the typical time and a half ( and some companies try not to honor Labor Day as an approved holiday)😅

Yes it is crazy!!
That was a dumb explanation of what was a struggle for dignity, and power for workers.
They picked a “colored” person too.
Sneaky sneaky 😂😂😂
Slavery only with a few more steps
We still don’t get the day off. When I was a kid most people did, but national holidays and even bank holidays that are also national holidays aren’t days off anymore they just pay you the overtime rate and have you work regardless/anyway. They don’t calculate it the way they used to. I’m told it used to be holiday pay so the whole time and a half rate was paid to you on top of your normal daily pay. Now holiday pay isn’t separate from overtime pay and they just pay you as if it was overtime rate so you just get the time and a half not your pay plus the time and a half like I’m told businesses used to pay for holidays that fell on your normal days. When holidays fell on an overtime day and they made you work it I’m told you used to get both ot and holiday pay now you only get one or the other.
Are people really “switching careers” like I was a dentist and now I’m an acrobat? Seems like people are switching employers but maybe staying with the same career.
My ex changes careers more than shirts. He went from accounting, police academy, lineman work (groundsman), trucking (for a week), then dispatch all in 2 years. He had commitment issues though. Otherwise I was the opposite, stayed for years at the same place until I moved in with him lol some people shop around
@@user-um8zt2ke8osounds like me and my wife 😂 I feel your husband.
This fool said “I’m an acrobat.” Lol
I say all of this in the hopes that you will see the light and the truth. I didn’t know the Truth for 50 years of my life until the Lord came to me on a hike, and I’ve never been the same. You know the world has a different idea of what truth is, but Jesus, the Son of God, is the Truth. What comes from Him is truth-One day it will be all that will matter. I’m not sure if you know but sins are acts against the God and Father of Jesus Christ. There are degrees of sin, with killing of another human being is one of the worst. There are concequences for this sin that might not be obvious at first. In fact you don’t even have to believe in Jesus Christ to be affected by sins against God. One day you will take your last breath and you will be face to face with Jesus Christ, the Judge of every human being who has lived, and have to answer for your sins. I strongly encourage you not to vote for a lady who delights in abortions. This is not good for you and certainly not good for this country.
We need more unions

As you talked about remote workers, I remember one Christmas when we spent the holiday with my parents and grandparents. It was the day after Christmas and everyone was relaxing after breakfast. My grandmother asked if my husband needed to go to work. He looked at his cell phone and his laptop that was plugged into an outlet in the dining room, and said, “I am at work.” This was probably the late 1980’s or early 90’s. My grandmother was used to people having to leave home for work. What a shock for her!

I work remotely and it honestly has been absolutely incredible. I save so much time from traffic and save so much money from not spending on gas and eating out. I’ve been doing so for the last 7 years out of my 9 years of my career and I hope to keep it that way forever.
Yeah, all those workers in hard hats and steel toe boots are gone 😂 My guy, you’ve been working in the office for too long
I’m working labor day
I love work! Everyone should work harder, for longer and for less pay! Especially the poor! Anything to make our bosses happy! 😍😘🥰

The Virtuous Labor Day 2024 Reckoning of Robber barons and Virtue-less Un-American globalist corporate oligarchs
We the people have a resolute message for virtue-less traitorous un-American globalist corporate oligarchs and their political and judicial collaborators, who profited from diminishing and attempting to destroy our virtuous American Dreams. The great raging bull of Wall Street has earned the end he is rapidly approaching. He is but a virtue-less beast with an insatiable appetite that has forced many Americans to live in oppressive poverty in a futile attempt to satisfy his insatiable hunger. When the lassos are thrown around his neck he will stomp, snort and paw the ground. He will bellow and thrash about as the ropes are pulled taut. He will tremble with rage and fury as he is dragged from his Bowling Green pasture. There will be great froths of saliva about his mouth and huge tendrils of snot hanging from his nose as he protests this contemptuous treatment. He will continue to buck and bellow as he is dragged down Wall Street and the other streets of New York City until his destination comes into sight. Then the great raging bull of Wall Street will in a mere moment lose all his arrogance and bluster as his eyes look into the yawing doors of Democracy’s Slaughterhouse.
The once great beast will transform into a mewling and cowering bovine, no longer raging but instead panicked with the fear that the inevitable consequences of his virtue-less gluttony are about to be imposed upon him by the very people he callously diminished to elevate his own stature. The beast is dragged through the slaughterhouse doors as his hooves desperately attempt to gain traction on the concrete floor. One final heave upon the ropes securing the beast and the headlock slams shut about his massive neck. His eyes are now bulging, wide and wild as he struggles in vain to free himself from the just reward for his arrogance, indifference, corruption, callousness and insatiable greed. The muzzle of the captive bolt gun feels cold and alien to his temple and in a split second the great beast of Wall Street is transformed into a pile of meat and bone as he collapses to the slaughterhouse floor. His hind quarters are quickly secured to the massive hoist as the chains strain to lift this virtue-less gluttonous beast off the slaughterhouse floor.
The once great beast of Bowling Green begins its journey through the slaughterhouse suspended from the overhead track as workers set about the tasks of bleeding, skinning, decapitating, cleaning, splitting and cooling the carcass. Later, chanting in cadence, “Vanquishing the Tyranny of the virtue-less un-American globalist corporate oligarchy” the workers begin to move the sides of beef to tables where they set upon it with meat cleavers and carving knives to separate the cuts of meat. The workers take great satisfaction in the honesty and nobility of their labors. The meat is wrapped and delivered to butcher shops where each sale of meat by the butchers is celebrated with the same phrase, “Re-distributing the captive, ill-gotten gains of the virtue-less un-American globalist corporate oligarchy”.
The butcher shop customers rush home to prepare their extravagant meals, for they have long endured poverty, economic, social and political oppression, exploitation, subjugation and injustice to feed and fatten this great virtue-less, gluttonous beast. In every home across America that has been made intimately familiar with the abject and abominable, virtue-less, immense wealth authoritarian tyranny of the Bull of Bowling Green the same phrase can be heard as hungry families are called to the dinner table, “JUSTICE IS SERVED!” We the people define and dispense justice when elected politicians betray our good faith and trust and sell our collective representative authority to political campaign contributors and cowardly dark money donors otherwise known as the virtue-less un-American, globalist: (owing allegiance to no nation) corporate oligarchy in blatant defiance of our Founding Principle of Equality. The struggle against virtue-less immense wealth authoritarian tyranny is eternal and thus the American Revolution and the quest to achieve and secure the virtuous American Dream are also eternal.
It would seem the only difference between the virtue-less tyrants/oligarchs, who sought to oppress and exploit us before the American Revolution and those virtue-less tyrants/oligarchs, who would emerge to oppress and exploit us after our victory over monarchist immense wealth authoritarian tyranny is the absence of a British accent. Heed this cautionary tale about the dire consequences of virtue-less oppression, exploitation and subjugation politics, economics and justice. Behave like a virtue-less beast and you may very well be treated beastly by those you oppress, exploit and subjugate for your unearned, undeserved and obscene self-aggrandizement. We the people embody virtue and resilience that is America’s greatness. Virtue is the essence of a civilized society and without it there shall be chaos and anarchy. We the people’s willingness to endure hardship has been obscenely exploited to our undeserved and unjust detriment. The leadership of our federal government, our state governments, our economy, our political process and our system of justice mock and defile that greatness. We shall endure no more! Our virtuous American Dream is not for sale at any price, nor shall we allow it to be stolen from us by the cowardly virtue-less traitorous freeloader un-American globalist corporate oligarchy’s usurpers and enabling collaborators.
MSNBC as usual trying to write unions out of America and say they’re only part of history. Hmmm, why would a Media corp possibly do that? 🤔
Always good info🎉,
My last 2 dollars 😂😂😂
I don’t have the day off
This is such a corporate friendly explanation for labor day and how/why the workplace has changed and why workers don’t stay at their jobs as long anymore.
HELLOOO the reason people don’t stay at their jobs as long anymore has a DIRECT CORRELATION to the reduction of labor union membership. It’s not about all the distractions they try to come up with in this video. It’s because workers don’t have unions. And because they don’t have unions, employees are exploited more by companies. And since they’re exploited more, you see people quitting their jobs to move onto another company that treats them the same. And it’s a cycle that going to continue until it reaches a boiling point, workers regain their class consciousness that we use to have in the first half of the 20th century and people ORGANIZE MORE LABOR UNIONS. Once people are in labor unions, working conditions improve and people stay at their jobs for longer. It doesn’t matter what the job is. It doesn’t matter if it’s hard labor construction or sitting at a desk remotely-that is irrelevant. The point is you’re selling your labor to a company in exchange for a wage that’s a fraction of the wealth your labor produces. PERIOD. What your specific job is you do has nothing to do with the fact you’re being exploited. ALL OF YOU.
i’ll be at work today because corporation. hmu for a haircut lol

There was barely any history or meaning discussed. More of a, “What does it mean now”
I’m born Korean and I do know the harrowing realities…. It’s like they just bunch 40-something kids up and force them to study to compete like a bootcamp all-day long, at least it was in the past as I was growing up. No real life skills. Of course things like violence-charged bullying are bound to happen the ‘harsher’ the climate gets in that setting. I don’t know about now; there are some respectable teachers in there I believe but I just see for the most part people these days especially are rather going weird for wellness than facing what’s really is at the core of the problem I feel.
Labor Day would never happen in the current neoliberal U$A, all union busters and corporate capitalism on all sides of politics. Workers are slaves
Also people change jobs because most of the jobs here are from temporary job positions or season from a job agencies and it sucks. People can’t save money or retired money.

Heads or Tails
In Today’s political standing in a modern culture with the common goal of attaining our own survival and prosperity.
There are dividing wealth gaps and cultural diversities.
The turn of the century was a pivotal moment in a young country.
When we rivaled even the most experienced in wit and brawn.
Negotiating with Terrorists
Headbutting perspectives and mentalities
Waves of clashing propaganda all trying to sway fealty.
We find ourselves once again in a pivotal moment
Like looking in a mirror the country has had significance in this world as a super power.
Founded in God’s name, the first and only true super power.
Turn of the Century
Within my cultivated cultural boundaries.
Where this ship is steered is in the hands of a divided house.
Conserving our vessel without it hindering our civil liberties;
Seemingly headed towards, yet another agenda.
In the line of sight there appears to be change.
Staring down the barrel of a telescope.
“How did we all end up getting the day off?”
That’s the cool thing. *We didn’t.* No one cares about giving these holidays off unless you’re a federal worker.
If employment has been improved as much as this video claims it has, why has wages not improved relative to productivity (GDP) and the price of goods. Why is it so expensive to buy a house, car, groceries, etc.? Why do we need duel incomes in order to thrive? Why must we all rent instead of own? Why are millennials just now buying homes in their 30s instead of their 20s like their parents (who also had the option to have a parent at home to rase the children if they wanted w/o breaking the bank)? This seems very beneficially fabricated.
Not allworkers has day off

Labor day means we get to celebrate being wage slavZ3s. Simple as that. Work will never end. “Working” is energy. “work” is required for this life even when inside/outside the “job”. Work (even today) is still slav3zy but just more humane. Instead of the old slavzry where it was forced to work with no choice and treated like sub-humans/very badly…..Today’s up to date slav3zry is just forced to work with a choice of where and ur given money so you can buy urself stuff. The old days of slavezry is defaintely done but the “phases” or current version of slavezy is nothing more than a shell of its past with wage benefits.
The “holiday” literally became a “holiday” in 1894 LOL. Let that sink in!
The same people say “GET OVER IT” ARE THE SAME ONES STILL WHINING ABOUT THESE AMERIKKAN TRADITIONS
