A viral TikTok trend that some users are calling “a money glitch” is having some serious consequences after people deposited fraudulent checks into their Chase Bank accounts and attempted to withdraw the money before it was flagged. It’s not cash guaranteed by the government. It’s a promise note from the check author, vouched for by the check depositor to the bank. You might get money in your hands, but when the check promise fails, your vouching stands and you owe the bank.
That’s why you don’t take checks from people you don’t trust.

I don’t understand how people convinced themselves that when they put a bad check into their account, they wouldn’t be on the hook for it. That amount of stupidity is mind blowing.
A guy on this comment section said something like he would write fraudulent checks and put the Marks name on there and the Mark would deposit the fraudulent check for say $5,000, withdraw $4,000, and give him a cut of around $1,000 before check was determined to be fraudulent by the bank. The Mark was on the hook for the entire $5,000 and the Guy had long ridden off into the sunset with the free $1,000.

So people were taking $10k to $30k from the ATM?? There’s a daily limit of $300 to $500 depending on the bank.
They were probably getting cash back 400 times at stores where the max cash back is $75 a transaction. It seems excessive, but they could have made 10 different purchases at 10 different registers at $75 . That’s already $7,500 in just one store. Go to other stores and do the same thing and you can easily do $30,000 in cash back before the check is found out to be fraudulent. 💡🤔

I’m less surprised people are stupid enough to commit check fraud, and more surprised Chase didn’t patch this ‘glitch’ after 10 minutes. How does a bank ignore an influx of thousands of customers all suddenly depositing ridiculously huge checks into accounts that probably never have more than a few hundred dollars in them, then the customer immediately withdrawing the money?

Fifteen years ago, somebody wrote me a check because they owed me money, and I went and deposit it at my bank. I waited a couple days because it was a large check. And I knew it would take a while to clear the bank, and as soon as it did, I paid a bunch of bills with it. About 10 days later, my checking account was super. Negative, so I called the bank and they said that the check was actually from an account that had already been closed and I had to pay all that money back. I was upset because I waited so many days for them to clear the check.So I thought the check was good, but it wasn’t. Banks will front money sometimes, but it doesn’t mean that there’s money.Actually, there, and you have to be careful with situations like this. I can’t believe these people don’t think it’s not going to come back to bite them in the butt, that’s just pure ignorance.
Only the banks can scam people and get free money. Apparently absolutely no one remember 2008 housing crisis. U know the one where the banks lost everyone’s money because they were scamming the American citizens and then when they lost all the money the American citizens bailed them out and paid with our tax money? They made a really dumb mistake, and unfortunately for them, this mistake comes with a lot of consequence. RIP their credit score, ability to get another bank account or credit card in the future, criminal record / any background check they need to get, and potentially their freedom.
Additionally, declaring bankruptcy does nothing to wipe out debt created through fraud, so they will have this debt with them the rest of their lives.

The money glitch was with Chase. Their last ATM software update removed the maximum daily withdraw allowance. That is what people were trying to take advantage of. Knowing banks, I wouldn’t be surprised if the social media trend started with Chase staff.
Chase is the worse bank ever. They let someone open up a checking account in my name and issued a whole debit card in my name. I had to fight to prove who I was and not only that if they had did that at first maybe the person wouldn’t have been able to open an account. It took almost 3 months to get it fixed and then as compensation they offered me free credit monitoring. Like this company as a whole is crap. They have terrible security systems because it’s always chase in the news
