Lives come first and my prayers for those in the path of Milton however when this is over, I’m sure some residents will be making some hard decisions. I’m in Illinois and when my insurance shot up this year, I rang my agent and she said a large part was Florida hurricanes and more companies were pulling out of Florida which leaves the few that stay, charge astronomical premiums which then causes many to drop their homeowners insurance because they simply cannot afford it. Years ago, ask any Illinoisan looking to move and Florida was the highest on the list. We even considered it a few years ago but between the heat, humidity, hurricanes and nosebleed high property insurance, the larger question becomes, when is enough, enough? and residents get tired of rebuilding and decide Florida is no longer a viable place to live.
