To rebuild, most folks are having to pay out of pocket, now, which makes it cheaper to merely move at this point. Are people just now realizing this? Being from the Pacific Northwest, this is exactly what I have never understood about Southerners. Why, why, WHY bother rebuilding after this tornado or hurricane when it will just happen again next year?? I realize as human beings we get attached to our part of the world, but imho it’s just a futile waste of money, resources, time and energy at this point. Yes. There will be a lot of people internally displaced in the US and in many other countries. Folks living on the coasts would do well to think ahead and start making plans to move inland because it could take years to save up the money, pack up belongings, find new care homes for elderly loved ones, etc. Nowhere is safe from climate change, but some places are undoubtedly better than others.
