A high credit score is only useful in terms of financing for big life events like purchasing a home, car, renovation, going to school, or starting a business. Most people can’t start a business without borrowing money.
I remember the journey of working on my credit last year to go from below 500 to mid 700s.
A lot of government employers or employers that give you access to sensitive information look at your credit.
I’ve met a lot of people that could not get a security clearance or had their clearance revoked because of bad credit.
I quit this video after 3 mins as there was no tips given on increasing the score.

Don’t forget to increase your credit limits to help your credit utilization.
Spending $1,000 on a $10,000 limit is gonna be better than $1,000 on a $2,000 limit.
That can also be counted as hard inquiry depending on issuer plus with company like amex you don’t want to increase it too high as that could result in financial review.

Actually I want to correct, if you apply for lines of credit AT THE SAME TIME, it counts still as one hard inquiry. That’s the best route is to apply for more at once than each day of a week.

You did NOT go from a 0 to 800 in no time! I call BS!
It is a system that is designed for you to fail while making lenders rich. They penalize you for applying for credit, for spending too much of what they loaned to you even when paid in full on time, for not having borrowed enough from multiple lenders, for not using the credit enough even though if you use too much of that amount they will dock you points..etc. etc. It is designed for you to fail because that is how they get rich off of you with the higher interest rates.
Excellent video Nate, this is so important for everyone. No one ever teaches this but it should be required in education. My utilization stays around 1% but that’s because I have a 101,000 credit limit and my credit score is 778. I pay off all my credit card bills and never carry a balance unless I need to purchase a big ticket item. In that case I usually apply for a no interest card and pay it off before the end of the promotion. As always, thanks for the info.
One strategy I use with my credit cards is I will pay the whole balance as soon as I get payed (biweekly) so when it comes time for the credit card company to check my utilization it’s usually pretty low, they only check the balance utilization around the time they post your balance due. So you can technically spend more while utilizing less (only if you have the cash to support it!!)

Should I cancel all my credit cards I don’t use. I have bad credit and I just want to hold onto that 1 card that I don’t have anything on.
In my experience, the history length is the biggest hurdle for young ppl because even with everything else perfect a perfect score cannot be achieved for years. Closing on a rental refi next week and know my score will inevitably drop because of a brand new account…not to mention the inquiry from underwriting. So frustrating…

Think about your age, your financial and personal goals for the next year. You ALREADY have a good credit score, keep it there! If you are buying a house, a car, applying for a new job with a big corporation, going on a trip abroad or wanting a free flight someplace in the USA… any of those in the next year…apply for some more credit and use it once or twice…otherwise..just manage your finances to pay off bills, let the offers come to you in the mail, and apply for one you like… airline miles, discounts at Amazon or on groceries and gas, whatever you think will best financially benefit YOU as well as your score. If you’re above 700, get to 750+… you’re golden, and not to worry why it’s not 800 because it will be soon enough if you have enough good-standing lines of credit, house, car, perfect payment record.

I agree but according to FICO you will not get scored if you don’t have anything to report monthly. I paid off my entire balance monthly I lost points on my score. I been repairing my credit for over 5 yrs and it’s a long feat in building up a strong score. Leave a 100 balance and pay 10 a month to have a sone reporting monthly I been doing this for so long my scores 816-796-759

I like the idea of more reliance on credit scores for the fact that great credit helps in recessions, cheap home and vehicle payments during times when wages can fall. When ur living equal to ur means just based on salary from wages and never built credit it’s harder to get by during recessions and can potentially suffer great losses, whereas foreseeing how credit should be given credit for times in such a case. Low baller payments help.
