In Russia, there is a rare defiance to President Putin and his call to bring 300,000 more troops into his army for the war in Ukraine. Thousands of Russians are forced to choose between going to prison and going to war after Putin amended the country’s criminal code declaring desertion or failure to appear for military service will be punishable by up to 10 years in prison. According to an independent monitor, more than 700 people were arrested across 32 cities. Growing protests are raging across Iran despite an unforgiving crackdown and threats following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Iran’s president issued a warning saying authorities must “deal decisively with those who oppose the country’s security and tranquility.” According to state media, 41 Iranians have been killed since the protests began. Ukraine is quickly seizing ground as its counteroffensive gains momentum and shows no sign of slowing down. On the 200th day of the war, Ukraine announced its troops reclaimed more than 1,100 square miles from the Russians, liberating more settlements in the east. Russia’s grip in the Kharkiv region slowly diminished, forcing the Russians to retreat. President Zelensky Says Ukraine Liberated 30 Settlements In Land Around Kharkiv

Ukraine is on the offensive and is quickly gaining ground. They reclaimed the largest wealth of Russian-controlled territory since April when the Ukrainian military pushed the Russian forces out of the outskirts of Kyiv. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine has liberated at least 30 settlements and reclaimed nearly 1,000 square miles of land around Kharkiv, including the town of Izium, a strategically important railway hub.
