The Philippines is urging Beijing to recall hundreds of fishing vessels that it said were spotted near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Philippine military released photos of Chinese ships at the disputed Whitsun reef claimed by both countries. The Chinese Embassy says these vessels were not part of any maritime militia but fishing boats taking shelter during rough seas. Saudi Arabia has announced a plan to offer its rivals in Yemen’s long-running war a nationwide ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations, the kingdom’s foreign minister said. In Germany, police used water cannon and pepper spray to disperse anti-lockdown protesters in the city of Kassel.
