Gambian President Barrow on course for big win: Early results

Gambian President Adama Barrow has been declared the winner of Saturday’s election, in what he and his supporters are celebrating as a landslide. Partial results from most districts show the incumbent president well ahead of his main competitor, Ousainou Darboe. However, Darboe and two other candidates have said that they would not accept the results. Vote count starts in The Gambia presidential election

Early results are expected on Sunday after Gambians voted in an election seen as a test for its transition to democracy. One million voters were registered for the election in the small West African country. Turnout was high as people had to decide whether President Adama Barrow deserves another term. Gambians set for high-stakes polls, first since end of Jammeh era

Voters in The Gambia are heading to the polls on Saturday to elect their next president, five years after long-time ruler Yahya Jammeh stepped down.
