Three Israeli hostages killed mistakenly in Gaza by Israeli forces were shirtless and one of them was holding up a white flag, according to an initial inquiry into the incident, a military official has said. The incident took place in an area of intense combat where Hamas fighters operate in civilian attire and use deception tactics, the Israeli official said on Saturday. Israel’s Prime Minister has once again vowed that the military campaign in Gaza will not stop until Hamas is defeated. Benjamin Netanyahu was speaking after a war cabinet meeting was held following the Israeli military’s admission that its soldiers broke rules of engagement when they shot dead three […]
Exclusive footage aired by Al Jazeera shows rescuers assisting injured people and carrying a stretcher while walking through the rubble following an Israeli strike on al-Minbar Mosque in the Jabalia refugee camp. “This is an injustice,” one man told Al Jazeera as he inspected the rubble. Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Anas al-Sharif, reporting from the site of the strike, described the situation as “getting more difficult”, as residential buildings near the mosque were also destroyed. US President Joe Biden has warned that Israel risks losing international support over its “indiscriminate bombing” of civilians in its war against Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip. “Israel’s security can rest on the United States, but right now it has more than the United States. It has the European Union, it has Europe, it has most of the world supporting them,” Biden said to donors during a fundraiser on Tuesday. “They’re starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place,” Biden said. Speaking at a political fundraiser, Biden also criticised the Israeli cabinet. “This is the most conservative government in Israel’s history,” the president said. “He [Netanyahu] […]
The US veto on Friday against a proposed UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza has triggered conversation and a call to action to use a rare United Nations resolution in efforts to stop Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. Egypt and Mauritania on Monday invoked Resolution 377A (V) to call for an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday. The resolution says that if the UNSC is not able to discharge its primary responsibility of maintaining global peace due to lack of unanimity, the UNGA can step in. Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance is that the war will continue until all its goals are achieved. The recent delivery of over $106 million worth of ammunition from the US, including tank rounds, reinforces Israel’s military capabilities. Despite growing international concerns and calls for a ceasefire, the US has shown alignment with Israel, as evident in their UN veto. Netanyahu aims to fulfil campaign goals, such as releasing captives, dismantling Hamas, and deradicalizing Gaza, indicating a potentially prolonged conflict, with discussions of it lasting another two months.
