UN warns of ‘domicide’ in Gaza: Houses and infrastructure destroyed

A relatively new word in the lexicon of war is ‘domicide.’ It describes the destruction of houses, and other buildings, making the area where they once stood no longer habitable. And the UN says that’s what’s happening in Gaza. Al Jazeera’s Imogen Kimber reports. US taking more ‘assertive’ steps to curb settler violence

The US is taking increasingly assertive steps in trying to limit settler violence. First, the demand was made for Israel to control “extremist” violence. Following that, a visa ban was imposed last week on some individuals linked to this violence. Now, the shipment of 27,000 military-style rifles, initially destined for the Israeli national police, has been temporarily halted by the Biden administration. There are concerns that these weapons could end up in the hands of settlers. Notably, the pause comes after the shipment had already cleared the initial congressional review and passed the committee stage. Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou-Castro has the latest from Washington, DC. War on Gaza: Deaths, injuries reported in Israeli strike on Jabalia mosque

Exclusive footage aired by Al Jazeera shows rescuers assisting injured people and carrying a stretcher while walking through the rubble following an Israeli strike on al-Minbar Mosque in the Jabalia refugee camp. “This is an injustice,” one man told Al Jazeera as he inspected the rubble. Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Anas al-Sharif, reporting from the site of the strike, described the situation as “getting more difficult”, as residential buildings near the mosque were also destroyed. It’s unclear how many people were killed in the attack. Biden warns Israel risks losing support over ‘indiscriminate’ Gaza bombing

US President Joe Biden has warned that Israel risks losing international support over its “indiscriminate bombing” of civilians in its war against Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip. “Israel’s security can rest on the United States, but right now it has more than the United States. It has the European Union, it has Europe, it has most of the world supporting them,” Biden said to donors during a fundraiser on Tuesday. “They’re starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place,” Biden said. Speaking at a political fundraiser, Biden also criticised the Israeli cabinet. “This is the most conservative government in Israel’s history,” the president said. “He [Netanyahu] […]

Yemen’s Houthis claim missile attack on Norwegian ship Strinda

Yemen’s Houthi rebels say they hit a Norwegian tanker in the Iran-aligned group’s latest military operation amid Israel’s war on Gaza. The Norwegian-owned-and-operated ship, Strinda, was struck on Monday night as it passed through the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait separating East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula. On Tuesday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group targeted the ship because it was “loaded with oil” bound for Israel. The crew refused to respond to all warnings, he said in a televised statement, adding the Houthis would continue blocking ships heading to Israeli ports until Israel allows the entry of food and medical aid into the Gaza Strip. What’s UN Resolution 377A, can it help in efforts to stop Israel-Gaza war?

The US veto on Friday against a proposed UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza has triggered conversation and a call to action to use a rare United Nations resolution in efforts to stop Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. Egypt and Mauritania on Monday invoked Resolution 377A (V) to call for an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday. The resolution says that if the UNSC is not able to discharge its primary responsibility of maintaining global peace due to lack of unanimity, the UNGA can step in.
