Two resolutions on the escalation of violence at the Gaza-Israel border have failed at the UN Security Council. Since March, Israeli soldiers have shot dead at least 121 Palestinians who have been protesting for the right to return to their homeland. The US vetoed a Kuwait-backed resolution calling for the protection of Palestinians. The US then failed to muster a single vote of support for its resolution condemning Hamas.
