October jobs report is ‘rock solid…the Fed is done hiking rates,’ economist says

October’s jobs data came out cooler than expected Friday morning, reporting nonfarm payroll growth of only 150,000 jobs — short of economist estimates of 180,000. The unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.9% while wage growth rose to 4.1%. Is this softening in the labor market good for the economy or just good for the Fed’s monetary policy? The Conference Board Chief Economist Dana Peterson and RSM Chief Economist Joe Brusuelas share their views on the cooling jobs data, which Peterson characterized as “the same story” coming out companies and their hiring practices, which is setting the stage for a “short and shallow recession in the first half of next year.” […]

The US economy added 150,000 jobs in October while the unemployment rate ticked higher to 3.9% indicating signs of a slowing labor market after a robust September report. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had expected 180,000 jobs were added in October while also projecting the unemployment rate would remain flat. The Bureau of Labor Statistics cited a decline in manufacturing due to “strike activity,” amid the United Auto Workers strike across plants at three major auto manufacturers. Apple earnings top expectations, Investors can ‘breathe a sigh of relief’ on Q4 results: Analyst

The U.S. needs credibility for the global economy to be stable: Expert

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo Finance, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon says that, when it comes to geopolitics, U.S. political turmoil has “created a certain amount of uncertainty that I wish we hadn’t.” Eurasia Group Founder and President Ian Bremmer weighs in, saying that for global economic stability, “the United States has to not just display power, but has to display credibility, and that is the challenge.” Bremmer says the U.S. isn’t viewed as the democratic leader that it used to be, arguing that a big reason for that is “Americans increasingly don’t know what their country stands for. Americans increasingly don’t believe in their own political leaders… the […]

Solar energy stocks struggle amid weakening demand and fewer government incentives

Renewable energy companies are particularly struggling while facing a heavy hand of economic headwinds, volatile markets, and higher for longer interest rates. In addition, California — the biggest U.S. market for solar panels — cut down on solar panel incentives earlier this year. Yahoo Finance Reporter Ines Ferre joins the Live show to discuss how this sector of the market is hurting and what this means for electricity prices going forward.
