With two major hurricanes in as many weeks, some Florida residents say they’ve had enough of dealing with hurricanes and issues associated with them. Hurricane Milton left widespread destruction on the Gulf Coast of Florida and more damage to some barrier islands. Storm surges flooded some communities with torrential rains of up to a foot or more rain, leading to hundreds of rescues. Milton also spawned a deadly outbreak of tornadoes, with more than three dozen twisters reported in the state. At least 12 people have been reported killed, including six people at a retirement community because of a tornado. With winds of 180 mph, Milton is now a Category 5 storm. It’s headed for Florida’s Gulf Coast, which is struggling to recover from Hurricane Helene.
