Nagorno-Karabakh truce crumbling as warring sides allege attacks

A ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan is under threat following new attacks in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Each side is blaming the other for not respecting the truce. Azeri officials say the city of Ganja was struck by missiles in the early hours of Sunday. Nagorno-Karabakh’s main city Stepanakert was also under heavy fire overnight but authorities there say it has been calmer on Sunday. Armenia, Azerbaijan accuse each other of violating ceasefire

Azerbaijan and Armenia have accused each other of violating the terms of a ceasefire in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, raising questions about how meaningful the truce, brokered by Russia on Friday, would turn out to be. Within minutes of the truce taking effect from midday on Saturday (08:00 GMT), both sides accused each other of breaking it. For the past two weeks, both countries have been fighting over the disputed region, the truce allows them to exchange prisoners and recover bodies. Nagorno-Karabakh: Key cities targeted in Armenian, Azeri shelling

Nine days into the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, both sides appear to be ramping up hostilities over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan’s defence ministry said Armenian forces were shelling three of its towns – Beylagan, Barda, and Terter. NATO’s chief Jens Stoltenberg and Russian president Vladimir Putin are calling for an immediate ceasefire. after dozens of casualties were reported in the deadliest fighting there for more than 25 years. Armenia, Azerbaijan blame each other for civilian casualties

Russia is calling for an immediate ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh and says Moscow is ready to help seek a solution to the conflict via the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Israeli gets life in prison for murdering Palestinian family

An Israeli court handed a Jewish settler three life sentences on Monday for murdering a Palestinian toddler and his parents in an arson attack on their home in the occupied West Bank. Amiram Ben-Uliel, 25, was sentenced by the Lod court following his conviction in May for the 2015 killings. He was also found guilty of two counts each of attempted murder and arson, along with conspiracy to commit a hate crime. The arson attack killed 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh. His mother, Riham, and father, Saad, later died of their wounds. Russian fighters flown out of western Libya after Haftar retreat

The battle for Tripoli has taken another turn as Russian fighters allied with Libyan renegade commander Khalifa Haftar have retreated from the front lines. Haftar’s forces have been trying to capture the capital for 13 months, but they have suffered a string of defeats in recent fighting against the UN-recognised government, which is supported by fighters from Turkey. The mayor of Bani Waleed confirmed the Russians left from an airbase in the town, in three military planes.
