Japan’s Princess Mako marries commoner, gives up royal title

Japan’s Princess Mako has married her non-royal college sweetheart Kei Komuro, formally giving up her royal status. The couple held a low-key wedding, after years of criticism and media scrutiny over their relationship. The pair will now be moving to the US where Komuro works as a lawyer. Badri-313: The Taliban brigade patrolling Kabul’s airport

More than two months since chaotic evacuations from Kabul’s international airport after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, things are slowly returning to something closer to normal. The airport is open to aid deliveries, as well as a few charter planes and evacuation flights. An elite unit of the Taliban is now in charge of securing the airport. Colombia’s most wanted drug lord arrested

Security forces in Colombia have captured Dairo Antonio Usuga, the country’s most wanted drug trafficker. Better known as Otoniel, the 50 year old was arrested on Saturday during an operation in a rural area of Colombia’s Uraba region, located in Antioquia province. Images circulating on social media show Otoniel handcuffed with his face planted to the ground. President Ivan Duque likened his arrest to the capture three decades ago of Pablo Escobar, the famed Colombian narco-trafficking kingpin. Duque said Otoniel is accused of sending dozens of shipments of cocaine to the United States, as well as of killing police officers, recruiting minors, and sexually abusing children, among other crimes. – […]

Haiti kidnappings: Leader of G9 group denies gangs’ involvement

Remnants of US army bases in Greenland pose pollution threat

At the height of the Cold War, the United States had around 50 military bases in Greenland. Many were left to decay and rust, polluting the fragile environment. One named Camp Century was even built under the ice before being abandoned.
