At the height of the Cold War, the United States had around 50 military bases in Greenland. Many were left to decay and rust, polluting the fragile environment. One named Camp Century was even built under the ice before being abandoned.
But as the ice melts there are fears that toxins and radioactive coolants – which were meant to stay buried forever – could soon be exposed.
Al Jazeera’s Nick Clark reports from Iqateq in Greenland.

@Timothy Han Those barrels we can see just had diesel fuel in them. There actually is radioactive waste nearby, though, buried under a glacier. Some people are worried it could leak into the ground in the future if the glacier melts. This could happen in 75 years maybe. None has leaked yet.
