US and NATO deliver responses to Russian demands over Ukraine

The United States and NATO have delivered separate written responses to Russia’s security demands, as efforts to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis over Ukraine continue. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that the US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, delivered Washington’s reply to Moscow, which is seeking security guarantees that NATO will halt its eastward expansion into former Soviet republics. Ukrainians join reserve army amid tensions with Russia

Ukraine is shoring up its defences and calling up civilians to join the military reserves in preparation for a possible Russian invasion. US military aid arrives in Ukraine amid Russia border tensions

The first shipment of the United States’ $200m security support package for Ukraine has arrived in Kyiv, the US embassy said. The delivery followed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Kyiv this week amid concerns from Ukraine and its Western allies over tens of thousands of Russian troops amassed at the border with Ukraine. Russia denies planning a new military offensive. Ukraine’s defence minister thanked the US for the aid. Mass murderer Anders Breivik asks Norway court for parole

A far-right mass murderer in Norway is asking the court to be released on parole. Anders Breivik has served the minimum 10 years of his sentence for killing 77 people in a car bomb and gun attack in 2011. Although he says that he has renounced violence, psychiatrists say he is showing no remorse for his crimes and Breivik has demonstrated a continued belief in the far-right ideologies that motivated his attack. Russia is preparing a pretext for invading Ukraine: US official
