UN chief invokes Article 99 on Gaza in rare move

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has invoked what is widely considered to be the most powerful diplomatic tool at his disposal. In a letter to the UN Security Council, Guterres invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter, which states that “the Secretary-General may bring to the attention of the Security Council any matter which in his opinion may threaten the maintenance of international peace and security”. More than 100 Palestinians buried in mass grave in Gaza’s Khan Younis

The bodies of more than 100 Palestinians, casualties of Israeli airstrikes, are laid to rest in a mass burial site. These bodies were moved from al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip for interment. According to Gaza’s health ministry these bodies, which are buried on land owned by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, were unidentified.
