Gambian police have fired tear gas to disperse supporters of a losing presidential candidate, who is refusing to concede defeat. The Electoral Commission declared incumbent Adama Barrow the winner, with 53 per cent of the vote. Gambian President Adama Barrow has been declared the winner of Saturday’s election, in what he and his supporters are celebrating as a landslide. Partial results from most districts show the incumbent president well ahead of his main competitor, Ousainou Darboe. However, Darboe and two other candidates have said that they would not accept the results.
