Gambian police have fired tear gas to disperse supporters of a losing presidential candidate, who is refusing to concede defeat.
The Electoral Commission declared incumbent Adama Barrow the winner, with 53 per cent of the vote.

I love how this video has very few views. Our people will no longer consume disinformation
MaNdaba wakwaNdaba you would think so, but aljazeera does actually cover qatar negatively somewhat frequently.
@Günther Gartenmann they probably air Qatar related news in your country, but definitely not where I am based.
MaNdaba wakwaNdaba you’re commenting on the AJ english youtube channel, I’m talking about AJ english.
@Günther Gartenmann remind me of a time when Al Jazeera English air anything negative about Qatar. What was it all about?
MaNdaba wakwaNdaba they’ve covered the usual stuff about exploitation and abuse of migrant workers in construction generally, the world cup infrastructure construction specifically, and I’m pretty sure also migrants as domestic servants (being endlaved, raped, murdered and such). I think some of the world cup corruption stuff has been covered as well. aljazeera does also do less important fluff pieces for qatar, but all more or less national media made for foreign consumption do that (like voice of america or deutsche welle).
aljazeera does have the underlying purpose of raising qatar’s international profile, and has been highly successful, but in my opinion AJE at least has significantly higher journalistic standards than the vast majority of serious news organizations! of course covering qatar critically is a touchy topic for them because of the way they’re funded, but they certainly don’t shy away from negative coverage entirely. they pretty much just make sure that qatar looks better than the UAE, and that’s good enough. 😉
I’m aware that AJ arabic programming is quite different, and I probably wouldn’t like that as much (less leftist, more anti-israel and such, I think).
what AJ does much better than other news outlets is the selection of stories, which includes a lot more actually rrlevant stories that concern people in poorer countries whom western media like to ignore in favor of covering harry and meghan and such. AJ’s coverage of third world political turmoil is also much more detailed, enough to gradually develop much more of a general understanding of those parts of the world than what people who only consume western news know. their arab spring coverage obviously was second to none.
Watching you live from UAE 🇦🇪

We’re looking at the collapse of Africa
The EU and Africa Union declared the elections as not free and fair. The report is not authentic
sounds like sore losers.
They used marbles, of course there was vote manipulation by the dominant party.
@MaNdaba wakwaNdaba at this point, its only 2 opposition parties who has rejected the results and non of them had given any reason as at now other than, “we wanna investigate” the results
The rest of the opposition has conceded. The clash happened only yesterday too and even that, it comes from one of the loosing party whose party leader asked its members to go home instead of been on the streets. Have this person even listened to the report by Ahmed Idris?
This election was the most free and fair election we ever had in the country.
Counting was done on the spot where all contesting candidates had representatives who signed the results before they were submitted and later pronounced. The Marble voting system is rig free if it’s done like the Gambia do theirs.
This comment is already long but I can give you all a total rundown of how Gambians vote.
@S king I have seen so many elections in the continent where the opposition concede defeat without any resistance.
@Muctarr Jallow I am not saying your marble system is flawed. If the Gambians are for it, so be it. The issue is when Gambians are not happy with system, question the very system that is said to be rig free. Some bring tribalism into the mix.
Gambians need to ask themselves why are some Gambians not happy with the results from our marble system that is rig free.
@MaNdaba wakwaNdaba I’m sorry I associated that part with you. I couldn’t tag SP after I’ve already tagged you.
To your question, that was something that the opposition who rejected the results were supposed to answer but they didn’t. They just came out to say they don’t accept the results and they will investigate why they didn’t and if it holds water they will file a petition to the Supreme Court.
1 of the 3 candidates who made that joint statement has withdrew his statement and the supporters of one of the remaining 2 were the ones on the streets.
So in a nutshell, the opposition who rejected the results didn’t provide a reason yet as to what went wrong. They are asking their supporters to stay until after their investigation.
This people’s don’t have work to do
UDP have to accept defeat, spot counting has no cheating. It was the same process Dictator Jammeh was defeated. And all the coalition parties accepted including UDP ,
@Afro Gambian Girl don’t worry, the evidence will be provided soon, and the results will be overturned and Barrow will leave office in disgrace. How could the most unpopular president of all times in Gambian got the largest amount of votes ever in our history, it doesn’t make sense. The trust Will come out.
One should be magnanimous in victory and gracious in defeat. Mr. Borrow was magnanimous in his victory speech by acknowledging and thanking all of his political opponents on a hard fought election campaign. Mr. Darboe, on the other hand, is not being gracious in defeat. He should concede immediately and congratulate our president and wish him well because as head of state, his success is the country’s success and his failure would be to the detriment of the country. As long as Mr. Darboe keeps the fruit hanging by refusing to concede and dangling a court challenge, he fools his supporters into thinking that they will eventually get their way if they keep going out to the streets and stirring chaos and disruption.
There is a difference between having enthusiastic die-hard supporters and having the majority of the voters behind you. Mr. Darboe supporters are akin to Donald Trump supporters in that they are very enthusiastic and sycophantic but more noise does not equal to more votes. The majority of the voters did not attend rallies nor were they lounging around all day on social media making comments and insulting, screaming, bullying and being belligerent. I would like to believe that Mr. Darboe is a patriot and despite the sting of the defeat, he should do the right thing for the country and accept the legitimate results of this most free and fair and most heavily observed election in the history of The Gambia. If he does that, he will be able to salvage his reputation and not destroy his legacy, and most importantly, his supporters will realize that the game is over and go home. The last thing we need in The Gambia is instability, unrest or chaos. We are in the Tourism season after a devastating last season due to COVID-19. We need inward investment from both diasporans and multinational investors in order to have a vibrant private sector to provide employment. If there is any hint of unrest, tourists and investors will stay far away.
Aboulie Bojang….UDP like before, will be the first party to accept defeat if it was fair. But we all know NPP led by illiterate Barrow are crooks. First they’re illiterates. Second they’re crooks. Third they don’t fear Allah SWT. The Gambia is not lucky.
@Afro Gambian Girl remember every living person will die. That’s guaranteed. Respect please and remember that.
@Alieu Camara Do ASAP it was typing error my brother, I am not a British. I am an Gambia, Mandinka as my Mother tongue
UDP Cross red line in everything, it is define as extremism. Even in Islam
Keep your mouth shut, you know nothing
Who is UDP not to be defeated????
Exactly
Darboe is a Demi god for Udp
Do not put law in your own hands, surprisingly and disappointed Essa Fall is masterminding, an international lawyer

O Al Jazeera English
Maybe you’re right!.
—
That is the world🌍 we seek.√
But we can only achieve it🌍
together.
I know there are many — Muslim and non-Muslim — who question whether we can forge this new beginning?.
Some are eager to stoke the flames of division,
and to stand in the way of progress.
Some suggestthat it isn’t worth the effort — that we are fated to disagree,
and civilizations are doomed to clash.
Many more are simply skeptical that real change can occur. √
There’s so much fear, so much mistrust that has built up over the years.
But if we choose to be bound by the past,
we will never move forward.
Thank you.
And May God’s peace 🌏 be upon you all.
I Thank you.

These people want to destabilize our country 🥺💔 the Gambia had its most free and fair elections ever
UDP is the winner 100% even small childrens knows that.lets Stop backing Corrupt Governments🤓
This way of election is rigged proof they are just shocked by results .
Same my Country Bangladesh the mother of mafia doing the same
Desame going in our country
Am a Gambian. but since i started to vote the most violent party i ever known is this people the UDP. And very tribalism too.
@ Gully Gad Stop fabricating
Very true my bro
Say it again
Hear out this empty head. Mandinka’s are not tribalist, we all know the tribes known for this whole tribal thing
A man at death’s doorstep is going to destroy this beautiful smiling coast. Tourists won’t come, investors won’t come. Stop destroying this beautiful country. One man’s ascendance into an office he lost miserably is NOT more important than the country. This is a democracy. That is what you claimed you fought for in 2016 so respect it!
No one is entitled to be president. You seek the mandate from the citizens. It is possible that you might win or lose, and you have to be ready and willing to accept either possibility. Otherwise, you have no business running for president. You can be cautiously optimistic about winning but you should never assume that it is a done deal, which makes conceding in the case of a loss very difficult.
This is making many of us HATE the UDP now even more. Your party is finished and will be disintegrated. You are proving how unpatriotic you are. No love of country. No respect for the supreme law of the land- the constitution. Put the Country first. You cannot put first the ego of one man who lost the most-watched and monitored free and fair election in the history of The Gambia. Move on and let us develop our country. We are far behind many of our regional neighboring countries. The last thing we need is instability.
Be patriots- not sycophants, servile, obsequious militants killing yourselves on behalf of an egotistical figurehead. Maybe it is not in his destiny to ever be president. If it is not in his destiny, you cannot force it no matter what you attempt to do. The police will do their job to secure life, peace and property. You will NOT destroy our country- the smiling coast of Africa- on behalf of a 73-year-old barely walking man. We thank him for his work as a lawyer, his defense of democratic ideals in the past, and commiserate with him on his unlawful imprisonment by the former dictator. However, the Gambian voters rejected him and his platform because there is great mistrust. Many fear that if he were to win, his presidency would be overtaken by an obsessive focus on vengeance and retribution, distracting him from fulfilling developmentally-oriented campaign promises of improving education, healthcare, agriculture, human capital, and infrastructure.
The Gambians have spoken loudly that we prefer forward movement over backward obsession. We want peace, development, harmony, reconciliation, reparations and YES justice- but not at the expense of developmental goals. We need a lot of infrastructural development in this country. We are already far behind our neighbors. We don’t want to be bogged down by a political ruling party that will obsess about retaliation and vengeance. That is not going to bring down the Cost of Living for Gambians; it will not improve out healthcare or drastically reduce maternal and infant mortality; it won’t reform and improve our education sector; it won’t help us attain food self-sufficiency, and it won’t even bring about the security sector, constitutional and civil service reforms that you all claimed Barrow failed to do in his first term. Face the reality: if Barrow focused solely or even mostly on reforms and he did not do all the infrastural developments he undertook- building roads, schools, bridges, health centers, a hospital etc- he would NOT have been re-elected.
His resounding victory is a testament to the fact that Gambians want policies that will improve their lives- Not endless retroactive justice-seeking. The election is over. Let our President do his job. I am very hopeful about the expansion of the Port, the construction of the Banjul-Barra bridge, the building of the Mega hospital in Farato and the new University of The Gambia campus, 80 million dollars investment in Agriculture, the construction of more quality schools and skills training centers in partnership with MRC Holland Foundation, among many other projects that will ACTUALLY make a difference in the lives of the Gambian people. Let the man do his work. He won an overwhelming mandate from the citizens. “Ajindi” my foot. How can a man who won an overwhelming landslide victory step down for a man who lost BY a landslide and is not physically fit to carry on the grueling responsibilities of a president? Do you really love this country??? Are you even serious??? Do you believe in democracy or did you only “believe in” democracy under Jammeh and only if things go your way???
@Afro Gambian Girl can you even listen to your this nonsense talk, do you know when you’re going to die or die before him,and do you hear/see ousainou darboe given a statement by telling the udp supporters to go and destroy the gambia 🇬🇲 please stop been a hypocrite……..why the bad mind and hate …..because the almighty god will judge everybody so be mindful of what you do/say to your fellow human being please
Long live Gambia 🇬🇲✌🏾🙏🏿✊🏿
Support The Gambia
Love From Somalia 🇸🇴

Typical of most African countries. What is wrong with our continent?

Didnt UDP lose because he said he would send all tribe’s back to where they came from except for his own tribe
@The Laydee wow well in my neighborhood Jabang Estate thats what i hear and thats what made barrow understand he would win this election
@Christopher Brooks that’s their own believes. Tribalism has become trendy in The Gambia now, we are our own worst enemy!
Be careful what you are saying!!!
@Buba Jammeh calm down!! No one said its facts just hear say besides it is still to be seen what Barrow will do this second term of gis
@The Laydee yea i feel that way too but i try not to get into it too much as long as im still free to enjoy the smiling coast
This whole thing is getting out of hand, I think people should calmly wait for the legal procedures rather going out for demonstrations. Gambia is known for peace but that peace can be maintained base on our actions.
All this problem is caused by adama barrow most have to go
That’s not true. UDP r the Problem in the Gambian. Barrow win the election. They have accept the results
😂😂😂😂…even in a developed country like US, when one party wins, the other party claims it was robbed and the winner rigged the election…this is no news.
Country like Gambia should not do politics…there is only one true optimal way to developed an economy if the economy is poor…not two ways or six ways as we have seen in Gambia.
The six parties should come together and find and implement that optimal solution…otherwise they should forget about economic development. 😂😂😂😂
If you are poor, you dont fight, you come together to fix the economy. When you develop, you can fight.
Accept defeat and wait for another election 🗳 simple
I never supported Barrow but this was free and fair election Please accept defeat The Gambia people has spoken and is very clear. We have spot counting and every party has an agent in each polling stations. Barrow sweeps them like no body’s business.

“They have made their voices heard, it is for us to accept their decision.”
Wow, look at that, Trump, a REAL man who is able to move on. . . right in one of those chithole countries, too, out there with more character and class than a *FORMER* US president(45). You are such a fuquing loser. Everyone who grovels to the lie of Trump’s grandeur are even bigger losers and before its all over and done, you will cause yourselves to lose your entire country, constitution, and sovereignty itself. Keep it up, BAYBEE!😂

Udp leader is Selfish party Darboe you cannot be president Bye Force
Is Udp Vs Gambia hmmmmm
Their bodies miss beaten 🤣🤣. My baba darboe has advised his supporters “son’s and daughters to be law abiding citizens 🙏🏿
😂😂😂🇬🇲
The Gambian people have not voted for illiterate Barrow. In 2016 we had spot count and the information was transparent. This time Spot counting have given UDP 342,000. The incumbent had only 222,000. Why would the ICE not announce the winner until 5 hours later especially when we had a spot count. That’s when the election was stolen. We should follow the same thing we did in 2016. These crooks. But we will see who has the last laugh.
May almighty Allah protect our homeland ameen because our president doesn’t care for country our service of stupid people..Barrow stupid congrats to you is that I can say
There is no free and fine election barow must step down
