BRICS discusses expanding its membership

United Nations Security Council reform and introducing a common currency – those were two of the proposals discussed at a meeting of the BRICS economic bloc. Foreign ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China and hosts South Africa, are holding talks in Cape Town. BRICS nations often position themselves as an alternative to Western geopolitical dominance. The group is also looking to expand. Cape Town fire ‘contained’: Landmarks destroyed, evacuations continue

The mayor of the South African city of Cape Town says firefighters have contained a blaze that has ravaged the slopes of Table Mountain. Strong winds fanned the flames for more than 24 hours, destroying more than 400 hectares of land and buildings including parts of a university. An investigation is underway to determine its cause, but it has been confirmed one suspect has been arrested accused of arson.
