Peru judge denies ex-President Castillo’s bid to end detention

Peru’s Defence Minister has declared a state of emergency on highways and called in the military to protect key infrastructure. The move aims to stop blockades set up by protesters angry about the removal of the former president. They want Pedro Castillo freed from jail.
