BBC Arabic radio goes off air after 85 years

The United Kingdom’s publicly-funded broadcaster, the BBC, is slashing hundreds of posts in its World Service. That means its radio broadcasts in ten languages are ending. North America storm: Death toll rises as freezing weather continues

At least 48 people have died as severe winter storms have pummelled the United States and Canada. ‘Dangerous situation’ in Buffalo as storm kills dozens across US

People have died while trapped in their cars as the toll grows from the deep freeze gripping the United States. There have been at least 30 fatalities across several states, including deadly accidents on icy roads. Officials have warned that the death count could rise with motorists trapped in their vehicles in and around Buffalo in New York state. Twelve have died in the state — one of the worst-hit regions — and in Buffalo, people have been confined to their homes for several days.
