Qatar has called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all prisoners in the Gaza war. “The Israeli attacks against innocent civilians have become catastrophic and could spiral in a manner that threatens the region and the world. We express deep regret of the UN Security Council’s failure to take responsibility under its charter,” said Sheikha Alya Ahmed Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s ambassador to the UN. “We renew our calls for de-escalation, a full ceasefire, and the release of all prisoners – particularly civilians. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has told the international conference in Cairo that Palestinians will not accept being transferred outside the Gaza Strip, despite relentless bombardment from the Israeli army. “We will never accept relocation, we will remain on our land whatever the challenges,” Abbas said before calling for sustained aid to be allowed into the besieged enclave. “We also oppose the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank and Jerusalem,” he added. AlJazeera’s Youma AlSayed says that the tower behind her that was hit by an Israeli missile was a residential building. AlSayed was reporting live when the missile struck. One of the apartments was previously targeted in August 2022, killing Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Tayseer al-Jabari. “But this time, the building was totally destroyed and brought to the ground. Looking at all the building adjacent to it, you can imagine the amount of destruction that is in [the vicinity].
