Shanghai cancels flights as Typhoon In-Fa lashes eastern China

Two international airports in the Chinese city of Shanghai have cancelled all flights and authorities banned outdoor activities as Typhoon In-Fa lashed eastern China with high winds and heavy rains. In-Fa landed in the Putuo district of the city of Zhoushan, a major port in the eastern province of Zhejiang, at 12:30pm (04:30 GMT) on Sunday, state broadcaster CCTV said, citing the China Meteorological Administration. Fresh floods in central China as typhoon heads towards east coast

Clean-up operations are under way in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou, which was hit this week by the worst flooding the region has experienced in recent history. Deaths in flooded subway as torrential rain hits central China

At least 12 people have been killed in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, as severe flooding sweeps China’s central province of Henan. Tens of thousands are also forced to evacuate their homes after three days of heavy rainfall, which was close to the annual average rainfall. The army has warned one of the region’s stricken dams may collapse at any time, risking the lives of about seven million people. Increased urbanisation and climate change have worsened the effect of floods in recent years.
