In the last few hours, Israel has intensified its shelling on the eastern side of Gaza City. Reports have emerged this morning of Israeli tanks attempting to move deeper into Gaza City, indicating a significant Israeli determination to cross from the east to the west of Gaza City in an effort to gain control of the coastal line. Despite the slow pace of their advance, they faced strong resistance from Palestinian fighters. The foreign ministry has released a statement asking for all international aid for Gaza to be directed to Al Arish in the Sinai Peninsula. It also says the Rafah border crossing with Gaza remains open and has urged Israel to avoid targeting the only route out of the enclave.
