One-quarter of central African rainforest could be gone by 2050

Rainforests in central Africa are rapidly disappearing due to logging and mining. It is one of the issues on the agenda at the One Forest Summit, under way in Gabon. The timber from these rainforests, now used to make furniture for people in wealthier countries, was once part of what has been called the planet’s “other lung” and a precious natural barrier to climate change.
