Taiwan to strengthen defences as China tensions escalate

Taiwan’s president says she is willing to hold talks with China if they are on an equal basis. Speaking at National Day celebrations, Tsai Ing-wen said she is open to “meaningful dialogue” with Beijing and hopes regional tensions can be resolved peacefully.
