Pakistan violence: Several officers killed in attack on police station

Armed men in northwestern Pakistan have attacked a police station. At least 10 officers were killed and another six injured in the city of Dera Ismail Khan. IMF forecasts Pakistan’s economy to slump, inflation to rise

The International Monetary Fund has slashed the growth outlook for cash-strapped Pakistan, forecasting the South Asian country’s fragile economy will grow just 0.5 percent this year, down from 6 percent in 2022. The latest data on Pakistan’s ailing economy was released by the IMF on Tuesday, when it unveiled its World Economic Outlook report in Washington, DC. The coalition government of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is in talks with the IMF to receive a key tranche of a $6bn bailout package signed in 2019 by Sharif’s predecessor Imran Khan. Pakistan’s Sialkot: Home of World Cup footballs

They have never qualified for a World Cup but for years, most of the world’s footballs have come from northeast Pakistan. The city of Sialkot makes about two-thirds of them including the official ball for the 2022 World Cup. Arshad Sharif: Outspoken Pakistani journalist killed in Kenya

A prominent Pakistani investigative journalist critical of the country’s powerful military has been killed in Kenya nearly two months after he left Pakistan. “I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist today, as per police he was shot in Kenya,” Javeria Siddique tweeted about her husband Arshad Sharif’s death on Sunday night. Pakistan Parliament dismisses no-confidence motion against Khan

Imran Khan has survived a move to oust him as Pakistan’s prime minister, getting a reprieve when the deputy speaker of Parliament blocked a no-confidence motion as unconstitutional. Khan, whose fate was not immediately clear, later advised the country’s president to dissolve Parliament, leading to fresh political instability in the nuclear-armed country of 220 million people. Pakistan: At least 21 dead as heavy snow traps people in cars

At least 21 people have died after heavy snow trapped them in their vehicles as tens of thousands of visitors thronged Pakistan’s resort town of Murree. Most of the victims died of hypothermia, officials said. Among them was an Islamabad police officer and seven members of his family, fellow police officer Atiq Ahmed said. More than 4 feet (122cm) of snow fell in the area of the Murree Hills resort overnight Friday and early on Saturday, trapping thousands of cars on roadways, said Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.
