At least 21 people have died after heavy snow trapped them in their vehicles as tens of thousands of visitors thronged Pakistan’s resort town of Murree.
Most of the victims died of hypothermia, officials said. Among them was an Islamabad police officer and seven members of his family, fellow police officer Atiq Ahmed said. More than 4 feet (122cm) of snow fell in the area of the Murree Hills resort overnight Friday and early on Saturday, trapping thousands of cars on roadways, said Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.
The bodies of nine victims of the snowstorm in Pakistan have been brought to Islamabad for funerals.

Where were disaster management and district authorities, this is shocking, loss of so many precious lives.
City administration put out the warnings but ppl flocked to see the snowfall during the weekend. Snowstorm caught many off guard.
They were sipping hot tea in their perfectly heated rooms. Now they are everywhere on social media apparently helping people and being glorified.
@arif qureshi I live in Shimla which is very much identical with Muree, and it’s also snowing for three days, but here district administration, Police officials and disaster management officials were on roads, till the last stranded commuter was rescued.

Most didn’t die of cold ..
They died because they left the cat heater on while the exhaust was blocked causing increase in carbon monoxide to a dangerous level, eventually killing them sadly

People take risk with nature, also authorities should have control the area the area is famous hill spot in Pakistan and very accessible from capital Islamabad, the road directly connect Islamabad with Murree and people just get out in their cars and on their way to Murree from Islamabad, the problem is the area can only accomodate 10K cars to enter the area, but because of snow and people want to go there 100k cars enter the area chocking road for miles. here comes our dear authorities who were just busy getting entry fees on tool plaza and don’t even care how may cars are entering the area

There were more then 100,000 cars and tourists there since new year night when the capacity is only 20,000 cars the government had closed the roads from one day before this tragedy but when the snowstorm came it was a tragedy waiting to happen as people were not coming back after New year

The family went to the hotel but they asked 70 thousand rupee for one night stay. They could not afford it and decided to sleep in the car instead.
