Bangladesh suffers long power cuts amid worst heatwave in decades

Bangladesh is experiencing its worst power shortage in decades. Some households and small businesses are without electricity for up to 10 to 12 hours at a time. The government has cut energy imports due to low dollar reserves and a prolonged heatwave is increasing the demand for electricity. The outages are affecting production in the crucial textile sector. Hundreds of thousands march in Poland anti-government protests

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in Poland on the 34th anniversary of the eastern European country’s first post-war democratic election – a march the liberal opposition billed as a test of its ability to end nearly eight years of nationalist rule later this year. The enormous anti-government march in the capital Warsaw on Sunday was attended by citizens travelling from across the country to voice their anger at the right-wing administration. protests come ahead of elections in which the governing party is seen as the likely favourite to win.
