Bangladesh suffers long power cuts amid worst heatwave in decades

Bangladesh is experiencing its worst power shortage in decades. Some households and small businesses are without electricity for up to 10 to 12 hours at a time.

The government has cut energy imports due to low dollar reserves and a prolonged heatwave is increasing the demand for electricity.

The outages are affecting production in the crucial textile sector.
