Russia general in Ukraine removed over strategy criticism: Report

Moscow’s military leadership has reportedly dismissed Major-General Ivan Popov, commander-in-chief of Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army stationed in southern Ukraine, over his concerns for troops fighting without rest and criticism of Russian battlefield strategy. Russian authorities drop charges against Wagner group

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) says it is dropping a criminal case against Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner Group related to the mercenary’s attempted rebellion in the country over the weekend, according to local media reports. Russian state news agency RIA Novosti says the case was dropped because “the participants had ceased actions directly aimed at committing the crime”. Russia’s defence ministry says the Wagner Group is preparing to hand over all its equipment after attempting to launch a revolt in the country over the weekend. Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin ordered his mercenaries to halt their march on Moscow to avoid “shedding Russian blood” and agreed to live in exile in Belarus – ending one of the biggest challenges to President Vladimir Putin’s decades-long rule.
