Moscow’s military leadership has reportedly dismissed Major-General Ivan Popov, commander-in-chief of Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army stationed in southern Ukraine, over his concerns for troops fighting without rest and criticism of Russian battlefield strategy. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) says it is dropping a criminal case against Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner Group related to the mercenary’s attempted rebellion in the country over the weekend, according to local media reports. Russian state news agency RIA Novosti says the case was dropped because “the participants had ceased actions directly aimed at committing the crime”.
